That demo did not sound great in my opinion. I have seen other demos of the amp and of him playing, and that demo sounds like a sloppy version of a Dimebag tone with more mids.

Re: Mesa's Royal Atlantic doing metal LOG style

kinda hard to tell as it's a wall of gain (some very cool riffs, I just think they'd sound better with more clarity/less gain)

Re: Mesa's Royal Atlantic doing metal LOG style

it gave me a headache...kinda like hanging out at guitar center too long

Re: Mesa's Royal Atlantic doing metal LOG style

meh, sounds ok. very dark in the high end.

Maybe it's just his playing style/settings.

Re: Mesa's Royal Atlantic doing metal LOG style

I agree about the high end being dark. But I really wish I could get around the neck that quickly and accurately.

Re: Mesa's Royal Atlantic doing metal LOG style

My experience with the RA is that it gets dark and mushy at high gain, so this is not surprising at all.

It's an excellent amp for everything up to and including Marshall-y crunch, just not very good at tight, focused high gain IMO. If that's your bag, Mesa's got a few amps that will be more suitable.

Love LOG, but I gotta say... it's quite comforting knowing my amps sound better in a room than a pro's setup does.

He plays metal riffs better than me.
Oh wow, he's doing some bluesy stuff at the end. OMG I love that! I like the bouncy clean tone too.

I read a review for the 30 watt Trans Atlantic that said its strongest point is moderate gain AC/DC tones - the sound of a cranked 70's Marshall.
I wanna hear if the Royal Atlantic does that.

Mark really does seem like a cool guy. Very talented, awesome playing style. Usually his tone sounds better, maybe it's the mic.

I'm curious to try his Dominion pickups... I like the breeds in one of my guitars, which seem to have inspired his set.
