Metal Humbuckers for brightening a dark sounding guitar

I just bought an LTD Eclipse recently. It's a nice guitar for its price range, and the pickups are decent, but it is dark sounding (I need to dial a lot of treble and mid frequencies in my amp). I would just like more clarity, articulation and string to string definition under a lot of distortion. The DiMarzio pup selector mostly recommends either a D Activator Set or a Super Distortion/PAF 36th Anniversary combination. The SD pickup picker usually points to the SH4/SH2 set or the SH6 set. Besides these pups, I'm also considering the SH5/59 neck pairing, the Black Winter set and the EMG's H3 or H4 sets. I usually play Black Metal through a Line 6 Spider amp. Output is not an issue since this amp has ridiculous amounts of gain. I would be very grateful if you share your experiences with any of this Humbuckers. Thanks.

I recently owned an Epiphone Les Paul with the Distortion set. It was so ridiculously bright I took it back and swapped it for a Telecaster. Yes, that's what I said.

When you say black metal, you mean stuff like Mayhem or Burzum? That Distortion loaded Epiphone into my Fender Super Reverb would've worked very well for that.

Thanks. Yes it would be for playing Norwegian Black Metal.

For Duncan's I would agree the distortion set would be a better choice for Duncan, or even their black winter which was designed for just that type of music. For dimarzio, don't overlook the plain x2n, the evo/evo2, a Steve's special flipped, or a dactivator neck for the bridge.

I'd take a look at the Railhammer Chisel/Anvil set alongside the DM and SD offerings.

in my opinion the black winter set is your best bet

Something to consider if you want an awesome sound and want to save some cash...Bill Lawrence L500s (throw in the Dimebucker here as well but it is typically more expensive than the L500s.) Definitely would brighten it up a bit and can handle any style of music (Dimebag Darrell used them before switching over to SD for the Dimebucker, which is just a slightly hotter L500XL with Ceramic Mags instead of A5.)

Nuts that your EC is dark, because the EMG loaded one I used to own was too bright. Thin body profile, Maple cap, sharp sounding 81in the bridge. The thing was an absolute razor blade...

Another vote for the Distortion set or Black Winters, with an edge going to the Distortion to compensate for the muddiness. This is a good example of pickups compensating for a guitar that doesn't have the EQ profile you like (but really like the guitar itself).
