Metal plated guitar?

I think dimebag had one, but I was wondering if it would be possible to do it myself.

Heres my hyppothetical plan:

1.Cut metal pieces to fit each surface of guitar body

2.Apply athin layer of plastic to guitar body.

3.Heat metal pieces (poss. using blowtorch/cutting torch) to degree hot enough to melt plastic.

4. allow plastic to cool, fixing the metal to the wood.

5.Apply coat of epoxy.

6. apply finish coats

So there you go. Will it work?

Those are cool, but If I had that much money, I would probably buy myself a car worth pi*ssing on instead. I also had an Idea that you could do heated metal on a resin body guitar, because resin melts, but it would weigh about a million pounds... still be cool though

Re: Metal plated guitar?

Why not do something like Noodles from the Offsping (metallic tape all over the guitar) or like a guy on project guitar that got some sorte of adhesive metallic sheet?

I'm sorry, but those ideas make me want to confiscate your guitar [j/k].

I give it 6 months before it's covered in unmovable lint.

Re: Metal plated guitar?

Confiscate my guitar and horrible things will happen to you. 'Sides if i was gonna do this project, i would build a guitar from a block. that way I could keep the corners sharp, and not have to try and bend the metal. Tape? You mean like duct tape? The only way to do that without invoking the wrath of Big Black's immovable lint would be to tape it and then spray like... 1/4to 1/3 in. or clear coat or Epoxy over it. That would be way more work that its worth. As far as Metal sheeting goes, i cant think of any sort of adhesive that would adhere well enough to both wood and metal, and that wouldnt melt in heat, or come oozing out the cracks in a couple of weeks.

9finger's got it, thats what I want... except that those look like sombody cut them out of the tool box on the back of grandpa's truck. i was thinking of doing alluminum body, with brass designs, or maybe copper, blow-soldered onto the body.

Sharp corners in metal... I hope you take care, man

Yeah that's the way it was done on the Ibanez sig.
