Metalcore pickups for a Basswood Body

Hi all,

I've got an Ibanez RG721FM and I'm looking to re-fit the stock pickups. Unfortunately the CAP-VM's aren't doing it tone wise and I need something with a bit more bite and chunk.

The guitar is a basswood body and rosewood neck. It is set to Drop B and runs into a Peavey 6505+ and Mesa 4X12 cab.

The sound I'm looking to base around is between Killswitch Engage and Bring Me The Horizon. A bridge pickup that's great for lead work but can hold a breakdown together, and a neck pickup that songs for solos would be great.

I'm open to all brands and actives. Any help on my problem would be great.

Thanks!

Killswitch use EMGs and BMTH use the stock pups I think.

So if you want to go Active you could any of the Blackout models.

If you want to stay passive you can go Duncan Distortion, ALT8, Dimebucker, or Blackwinter.

Personally I would go either the Dimebucker or ALT8 since they are the most articulate.

How does those pickups fair in a basswood body? I'm just worried if they would sound muddy.

Evolution in the bridge, Liquifire in the neck.

I don't know since the only basswood guitar I own still has the stock pups in it. But NONE of those pups I recommended will sound muddy.

I'm pretty positive a Distortion will do good in your guitar.

You also might want to look at the Crunch Lab Liquifire set from Dimarzio.
