I was wondering if i put some vintage noiseless pickups in one of those players deluxe mexi strats..how different would it be than an american?

Re: Mexican Strat Question

There is a big difference in tone and feel between most Mexican Strats and most American Strats...... Mexicans are great for the money and i own 3 different Mex's and one American Standard..... The Americans have a completely different feel to them and better tone..... If you can swing it buy American strats.... If on a budget the Mexicans can be good... out of the 3 Mexs i own one of them is really nice. the others are cr*p... I stuck Vintage Noiseless in a Tex/Mex strat.... Didn't like it at all...

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I've had 2 MIMs & 1 MIA....straight out of the box, the MIA was way better but after the usual upgrades, the MIMs rocked.

My current Strat is a MIM w/Ant. Surfers, RS Electronics wiring kit, & MIA tuners......I have no problem with it at all & if the kids kick it, I don't care!!!:bigok:

Re: Mexican Strat Question

It also has a 12" raidus which is more than the American standards (well, most of the Americans in general). And it has the push button thingy.

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I think the Mexican Strats are terribly under-rated. I have a 50's RI Mexican and once I got rid of the stock ceramics and replaced them with Fat 50's, it's been heaven. The parts are actually made here, only assembled in Mexico.

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I have 1 MIM Strat, 2 MIM Teles and USA Strat and I will say that with a few small mods I would put the MIM's up against any MIA I have owned or played. The Teles have new tuners and pickups and I have dropped a new bridge and new PU's in my MIM Strat. I don't think that the difference is a big as we are lead to believe. That's my 2 cents...

Re: Mexican Strat Question

Vintage Noiseless pickups have clean bell like sounds that can be too bright at times. They're good for 50's style Rock. You can also get overdriven sounds from your amp but you will not get very fat sounds. I have a set of these pickups in my MIJ Strat and I use it only for Classic Rocks.

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I didn't like the Vintage Noiseless in my Tex/Mex so i put the stock pickups back in.. I ended up putting the noiseless in my American strat in the neck and middle My USA Strat i bought used and it had EMG's in it i wanted to get rid of. The Noisless are there mostly for show as i only use the bridge JB on that guitar.. The output difference is too large between the JB and the Fender Noisless for a good match...

Re: Mexican Strat Question

PS- When i bought my set of Noiseless Fender pickups a few years ago, the wiring instructions and the pots included were wrong.... They shipped some sets with 3 1-Meg pots and the diagram shows a 1 meg pot for the volume..... this 1meg stuff sucks for a volume pot!!!! Fender started to ship the sets with a 500k volume pot and 2 1 meg's for the tone pots...

Re: Mexican Strat Question

MIM Fenders are the best deal for the dollar, bar none. Yes, there are better guitars available, but for what you're paying, you can have a decent instrument right out of the box with a minimal cash outlay. Besides, there just isn't that much difference between a Tele made in America versus one made across the border (or ocean). C'mon, folks, it's a piece of wood bolted to another piece of wood!

Re: Mexican Strat Question

The feel of the neck is much nicer and makes all the difference to me. Buying an MIA is all about the neck.

ya true... As far as the necks go the round over edges and the larger frets feel so nice.. i also find the wood in the American bodies to offer more mids and bass responce....

I like the Mexicans way better then most of the stuff coming out of overseas.. There is a tone and feel difference between the imports and the American Fenders. Most of my collection to be honest is imported cheaper guitars.. i own some American stuff, a Strat a real Les Paul, a custom made Warmoth, and a canadian made Godin that is great! My North American guitars blow the imports away... But i do find a moddified Mexican Strat comes in handy in a gig bag for travel and going to bars for jams.. places you don't want to risk your good stuff in.

On a side note check out this guitar as it costs the same as the Mexican Standard strat.... For the same price for a new Mexican Standard strat i would buy a Godin Freeway Classic.... The freeway Classic offers a real Maple top on a Maple and poplar body nicely finnished, a nice Maple neck with rosewood or maple boards.... The Humbuckers that come on the Freeway are pretty good for the dollar...

As i said before i own 3 Mexican strats and 1 is great and 2 are not as good but i hung onto them.

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I actually like the MIM guitars myself. I used to have a MIM Tele about 10 years ago but sold it because of financial reasons. I would get another if I could. I would really like to get one in midnight wine because that is the color or my MIA Strat and they'd match. As for the necks, sure, they're not as nice as the MIA's but they work and feel pretty good to me. I think with larger frets the'd be about perfect for their price line. Heck, I'd probably end up replacing the stock neck with a Warmoth neck that has the profile and frets of my choosing.

Re: Mexican Strat Question

I heard from this salesman in NY that the Mex strats are climbing up, means to say its getting better. My friend bought a Mex-made thinline 72' tele, the sound and touch is kindda unique compared to an actual US made tele.
