Mexican Strat??

I just found a REAL NICE mexi strat at my local guitar shop that I LOVE!! It's a tabacco burst color with S-S-S configuration. Anyway, they are asking $529 for it. Is that a good price for a mexi strat? Thanks All. :)

*edit* I forgot to ask the most important question. Is a mexi strat Any Good to begin with or should I save and get a USA made strat? :D

Re: Mexican Strat??

529 Is really steep to me. For 70 dollars more, you could get one of the lite ash strats, stock duncans, 22 frets. Or if you want a mexi, get one of teh standards, run new for 350.

Re: Mexican Strat??

Generally, MIM strats run around $400-500. The parts they use to make them, as well as the wood are DECENT quality... but having owned one, I think it would've been better to save up and get a USA strat. But also keep in mind I live in Canada, so the price might be different, and it was my first guitar... I was ignorant;) :laugh2:

Re: Mexican Strat??

Seems really high to me.. you could get a used American for that price. (Or $70 more and get a new Highway 1)

Re: Mexican Strat??

There US strats with a vintage 6 point trem, worse pickups I believe, a much much thinner satin finish, and non rolled fingerboard edges.

Are highway one strats any good? What's so special about them anyway?
Not so long ago Jeff_H got a US Highway strat for something like $369 and he likes them. In fact he also got one for me and its somewhere in the UK!! I think the money that you are paying for this one might be a bit steep -IMO, but if it talks to you and it feels good then go for it. Personally I think the Highway strats offer better value.

Re: Mexican Strat??

That's high. GC has them for $359 and you can get them down to $299. Just got one at $299 2 weeks ago. Brand new, just put on display, no pick scratches, plastic still covering pick guard.

Re: Mexican Strat??

$529 is waaaaaay too much. They can be bought brand new for $300-$350 as stated earlier.

Re: Mexican Strat??

I ayed about 500 for my MIM strat standrad liek u described, and i live in canada. Its pretty good actually. Nice quality, no the ebst of course but deent enough to play well. and ive had mines for liek 3 years and the lder it gets the ncier ti feels. but that might be just be.

Re: Mexican Strat??

$529 is list. No one in their right mind pays list. 25-30% off of that is more in line with what you should pay for it

Re: Mexican Strat??

Yea that price is really high, about say 6 years ago i bought a sun burst mexican strat for 325, hell musicians friend will will sell u one for 350.

Re: Mexican Strat??

Thanks Guys. Maybe I looked at the tag wrong, but I'm pretty sure that $529 is what they wanted. So, I'll save up and go somewhere else. :) I think the only thing that really drew me to the mexi strat in the first place was the color (tobacco burst). I'll just get a USA made strat in that color. :D

Thanks Again Guys.

i think this guitar might be a 50's classic
I do remember the tag saying "Tex-Mex" fender strat. Could that be the reason for the higher price? I can't find a 50's classic on the net anywhere to compare.

*edit* Nevermind, I found a 50's classic on the net. That's probably what I was looking at. So, now that we have that squared away, is the guitar worth the $529 price tag? :D
