My reclusive Blues maniac friend is attempting to research the gear of the late Michael "Iron Man" Burks. He has seen just about every YT video clip, read every Interwebz article, visited the man's official website.

Specifically, my friend wishes to nail the tone of Burks' modified teaburst Gibson LP R0 with the double cream (or, possibly, white) bridge/Treble position humbucker.

The official Burks website includes a link to Amalfitano Pickups but there is nothing to confirm which guitar(s) - if any - Burks actually used these on, let alone in which positions.

Any information or insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Michael "Iron Man" Burks mystery pickup

I talked to Michael at a couple different gigs he did at Skipper's Smokehouse in north Tampa. It was just before his 2nd album came out. Really nice guy. The 2nd time he spent 30-40 minutes with me, as I was writing up an interview with him for a local blues society. He said he was using Voodoo PU's in his guitars (don't remember the PU model) and I believe 10 1/2 gauge strings. Loved his V's. He said his favorite V was 'Little Red' that was given to him by a fan.

What about tracking down the Voodoo PU maker and asking them? They might remember what model Michael used and what guitars he put them in.

Yup. I shall pass on all of this info.
