Hi Guys (and gals!)
Going into the studio (cabin) this weekend to record guitars for my Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal project (think motley crue mixed with motorhead)...I will be bringing along my trusty JCM800's as well as a 5150 III. So here's my situation:
-One guitar band, looking to just have 1 guitar on the recording
-Looking to blend amps (thinking one 800 and the 5150) that I will blend and perhaps blend accordingly
I was wondering what you guys have experienced with this sort of setup? I have recorded my 800 a few times mainly with the following combinations:
-sm57 and 421 both on edge of dust cap (so far my favourite)
-SM7b edge of dust cap (similiar to above)
-sm57 and e609 (too bright)
I own the following mics, but have much more at my disposal for rentals:
-SM57
-Unidyne III
-MD421-U5
-e609
-sm58
-D6
-cheap apex condensers
Any tips or advice would be appreciated! In terms of setting up the amps to compliment, mic positions etc. Thanks!!
