Middle P/U for HSH

What would you guys suggest to put between a Pearly Gates and JB in a HSH Godin guitar? I am looking for a relatively warm sounding single coil that will not completely drop out volume wise when I switch from the humbuckers to the middle position. I play through a Renihardt 18 watt (basically a Marshall 1974x clone) if that helps at all. Thanks so much!

Re: Middle P/U for HSH

I prefer Alnico II Pro (staggered if you have a vintage 7-9.5" radius neck, flat if it's 10"+). It isn't bright, but is a single coil, and at 7k is almost medium output. Should work fine on its own, and should be decent with the others, in my opinion....

If not, and you want the "analytical" blend of the two (PG and JB), get a Five Two: alnico V in the bass for power, and alnico II in the highs for a smooth tone.

EDIT: uh, since mahogany isn't bright like my swamp ash strat, my apologies: you may want to use the Vintage (staggered or flat).

my favourite middle pickup in an HSH set up has long been a Lace Sensor pickup out of an old Strat Plus... but saddly i can not tell what colour it was originaly...

What is your switching configuration? How do you use the SC? By itself, combined with a split HB or combined with a full HB? If you combine with a full HB or use it by itself, I'd go stacked or VR/Duckbucker to cancel hum. If you always use it with a split HB, then true single is the way to go. Post what each position of your switch is.

i use a duck in the middle of my HSH ... i would recommend it highly based on tone-alone for chord playing or non-bent note single line playing .. if you bend strings when using this pup, i recommend the vintage rails instead ...
