Middle - rwrp or not?

Hi, I've got a strat with Hot Rails in the neck and bridge. I want to replace the stock middle with a nice hot single coil. Should I get a rwrp or normal wound middle pickup if I want it to be hum-cancelling with one coil of the humbucker? It would depend which coil it was wired to work with, right?
Thanks

Re: Middle - rwrp or not?

The difference between which rail is active when you split a Hot Rails is negligible.

Personally, I'd get an Area 67 and not bother with splitting. It has the perfect character to help create good position 2/4 tones with hotter pickups in the neck and bridge. The nearest Seymour Duncan equivalent is the Vintage Rails or Duckbucker, which (IMO) do not sound anywhere near as good. Seymour Duncan makes a vintage-output stack (STK-S4), but it is not as bright, and as such the quack won't be as good as it would be with an Area 67. The Area 67 is my favorite middle pickup for quack, period.

The non-RWRP single will be hum cancelling with the stud coil of a Duncan HB'er. Trouble is, I'm not sure which coil of a Hot Rails is the "stud". I'd assume the inner-most coil.

Dang! Now I'm having second thoughts on what I posted. I have this vague recollection of thinking that in an HS axe, you needed the RWRP version to be hum-canceling with a split hb'er. Perhaps, wait for other opinions before you make a purchase.

If you split to the slug (stud) coil (screw coil shorted by connecting white/red to green or black/green to red), this is definitely not the case.

The following is fact, not opinion...

RW/RP of most Duncan true single coils are North (the same as the slug/inner coil of all standard Duncan humbuckers and single-sized humbuckers) these include, but are not limited to the following:

SSL-1 RW/RP
SSL-2 RW/RP
SSL-3 RW/RP
SSL-4 RW/RP
SSL-5 RW/RP
SSL-6 RW/RP
SSL-7 RW/RP
APS-1 RW/RP
APS-2 RW/RP

I still can't shake that feeling. I guess I need to dust off the 'ole test equipment and do a couple experiments.
