MIJ Tokai with quality control probs

Re: MIJ Tokai with quality control probs

The fretwork doesn't look like a serious issue. It looks from the pictures like it has been refretted, and it probably needs a fret job.

The finish and binding, on the other hand, are totally unacceptable.

I've honestly never seen a Gibson that was this bad.

Re: MIJ Tokai with quality control probs

That's pretty shoddy work. I understand why he's pissed. However, I don't think anyone was really flaming him.

No...no flaming. That is exact;y what I replied when he posted this form-thread over at HC. He's just making the rounds.

Re: MIJ Tokai with quality control probs

+ 1 not really a flame.

Dealer should be shot for sending it out to a customer when he should have sent it straight back to the factory/importer as a reject!

I don't know what I'd do without my monthly Gibson bash...Tokai bashes just aren't as much fun :13:

I think the dealer should have never sold it to the guy no doubt..but it's not the dealers fault per-se. Thats a POS guitar and if it was a Gibson, people would be bashing the hell outta Gibson and not the dealer for selling it. There *is* a double standard. I notice when some other X brand guit has a problem, the fans step up and say "it happens, but they have GREAT CS, they will take care of it, blah blah blah". Gibson sells a bazillion more instruments than small company X, so the percentage of crap is greater... yet people never say "it happens, they have great CS, they will take care of you" (and they do!) ..instead everyone jumps Gibson's ass

Re: MIJ Tokai with quality control probs

I agree 100% with Jeff, however, the reason I feel there is a double-standard is because of the massive price difference. That is why people jump on Gibson's ass. Brand new Tokai's can be had for less than $1000 USD. Gibson's cannot. A normal run of the mill standard brand new runs close to $2k USD these days. For that kind of money, the QC better be good if not great.

That Tokai right there never should've left the plant looking like that. Since it did, the dealer never should have sold it.

Right on....

It's folks expecting more for their money.

For two and a half grand I expect a guitar to be flawless.

For $500 or so I'd expect to see some minor issues, but would be willing to live with them for the price.

Damn....for under a grand I picked up two Greco Les Paul Custom clones from the early 80's.

Bummer...

And nothing in the current Ibanez line is really anywhere near a Les Paul tonally.

Yep, that's me.

If you looked at my sig you'd see I currently own A Gibson. If you knew me, you'd know I've owned more Gibson guitars than any other brand. Everyone on down the line is to blame- from the hack who cuts the binding, to management who refuse to fix production issues, to the dealer who couldn't care less if he's selling guitars or apples, to the idiot who buys the guitar from said dealer...and sells it on Ebay (which is how it ends up in my hands).

The damage done to that guitar is NOT typical of Tokai. I have personally never seen or heard about similar issues with a Tokai guitar before this. I cut them slack here. The difference between Tokai and Gibson, is that Gibson does not care about producing a quality product. They will continue to shovel the same **** into the market as long as people are buying. I don't feel Tokai has the same mentality. I would gladly buy a new Tokai if I was in the market. I don't see myself ever buy a new Gibson. I will continue to play Gibsons because I love them when they get it right, but they will not see any of my money- I will buy used.

That's worse than my horrid-string-alignment V-250.
