MIM Strat Pup Mod

I just bought a FSR HSS strat at GS. Black on Black with a maple neck/fretboard. I know very little about the MIM's, but what really struck me was the sound of this guitar. The tone has a definite attitude about it. It has a nice amount of "grit" to it, but on further review, it sounds a little (for a lack of a better word) hollow. I'm thinking about new pups, but I don't want to loose that Kenny Wayne vibe. I thought about a stag mag bridge HB with a hot middle and neck SC configuration. Any suggestions?

I personally love the YJM Fury by SD which are the Yngwie Malmsteen signature single coil sized humbuckers! They do hold some strat tone in them but they're creamier and smoother and fuller ! The YJM's would make you get an SSS pickguard tho.

I personally own a Standard SSS strat which is almost a year old with me.

If youre not aware, the sound can sound hollow or sometimes thin due to the amp, i know not everyone is looking to buy a new amp, but believe me when i upgraded from my Fender Frontman to a Vox Valvetronix the guitar sounded much fuller and nicer.

I really like those stock MIM Strat ceramic pickups for certain things. They've got a really brutal upper midrange if you keep the amp fairly clean and strum really hard, but they get too muddy and oppressive for me once the amp starts breaking up.

I would call up Addiction FX and custom order replacement Alnico magnets for MIM Strat pickups. You need two per pickup. It's kind of a P90 construction, with one bar on each side of the pole pieces. But unlike a P90, there is no baseplate, and the pole pieces are not adjustable. So you have to glue the new magnets in place. While you are in there, you can install a 52.4 mm keeper bar (from Addiction FX) and P90 pole screws if you want. You can also add a metal base plate.

I got some of each type of magnet, and I am really liking the A4 in the bridge, and A8 in the middle and neck.

Thanks StratFreak,
I'll do a double take on the YJM's. I don't think the amp is the problem though. I'm using a 60w Tech 21 or a Marshall DSL100.
