Minding my own business and bought another G&L

For some reason during my lunch hour I thought it'd be nice to add a Floyd Rose equipped guitar to the collection. Had a little free time at the office and ended up buying a G&L Invader with the FR...swamp ash body and maple neck with rosewood fretboard. I'm guessing the JB will have to go, but we'll wait and see. I know, I know....this thread is useless without pics. All I can say is it's a blue burst finish, and I'll post pics when it arrives.

Re: Minding my own business and bought another G&L

There's a few guitars I've sold, that I wish I could have back. My Invader is one of them. It's the best Floyd equipped guitar I've ever owned, and it actually did sound good with the JB/2 Hot Rails. I switched the mini switch over to the Hot Rails neck, so I could split that, rather than the JB. Then, I could get a split tone that was strattier. The neck is a very fast playing neck. I like the crowned jumbo frets they put on it. It played like butter. I'm sure you'll like that guitar for soloing on, and doing all your technical playing on.

I ordered the dual humbucker model as I was afraid the middle pup would get in the way when picking (which is typically the case for me personally). I'm going to redo the mini toggle to split only the neck pup.

I'm excited for you, man! :)

Does it have a figured maple top?

I'm sure you know your obligations here at the SDUGF when you get a new axe... ;)

Negative on the figured maple top. It's a gorgeous slab of swamp ash shining thru the blue burst premier finish. The Asat Deluxe I currently own has a GREAT maple quilt top, and I wanted something different from both that and the tobacco burst alder on the Legacy.

I'll take digital pics and post once the guitar gets here.

Ahh ok. Take pics of it alongside your other guitars... triple-dose treat!

Cool, I'll definitely take pictures of the G&L farm. The guitar is being shipped today so I should see it next Wednesday. :smokin:

I'm looking at your list of gear... out of all the people on this forum (maaaybe with the exception of a particular member) I think I'd want your rig the most!

Thanks! It's taken me awhile to find what I like and provides the flexibility/tone I want, but I'm pretty much there right now. Only change I might make is modding the third channel on the Knucklehead since the inherent EQ is so different from Channel 2 (which shares the same EQ controls). Beyond that and finding the Duncan pups that sound the best in the Invader, it's pretty much a wrap.

There's no competing with that other member....I gave up a long time ago.

Sweet. I'm looking forward to the compulsory pics and review. Congrats on the score. Something tells me I'll really like this one.

Congratulations! I'm glad to see that I'm not the only G&L fan on this forum.

Their blue burst over Ash is so rich looking, it's as satisfying to me as the best figured top. The Ash they get is usually so deep-grained and swirly, and the blue burst or honey burst over it is so deep and transparent it just draws you in. Wise choice. My Comanche is a blue burst and it's sad because it probably doesn't get as much playing time because it looks so good.

It has a white guard, too, and every time I think pearloid might look cool I hold back because it would detract from that wood and finish combo.
