anyone tried using a mini humbucker as the middle pickup for a HHS config?

The Vinetto guitar has Firebird-style mini-HB's at the neck and middle with a noiseless tele bridge pickup. They have sound clips that sound pretty nice to me.

Re: mini humbucker as middle pickup?

i think that could be a cool combo, full size bucker in the bridge, mini humbucker in the middle and a single coil at the neck. the minis have more top end than a full size and less than a strat so i think it would work out well. you wouldnt get as much quack in pos 2 and 4 but i think those positions would still have a very usable sound

Re: mini humbucker as middle pickup?

i have a superstrat type with a jb at the bridge. would the mini classic stack go well?

i love the quack at pos 2 and 4 though. is it possible to wire pos 2 and 4 to split the mini humbucker? hope you know what i mean - i am not very good with the guts stuff. :)

I don't have the Vinetto link handy, but I'm sure it will show up in a google search. BTW, they use DiMarzio minibuckers -- firebird-style, not a single coil style like the classic stack (think SD SM-1 or SM-3).

I'm thinking of doing this, too. Lil 59 at Bridge & Mid, and single coil at neck.

Is there a reason this such an uncommon setup? Is there some inherant problem with it?

Re: mini humbucker as middle pickup?

Sounds like some sort of Stephen Carpenter (Deftones) sort of setup except he uses a full sized HB for the middle and bridge.

Re: mini humbucker as middle pickup?

I'm wanting to use an A2JB in the bridge with a Lil59 middle and a stock carvin A2 single coil in the neck.

I have been told that a mini bucker is best for singing leads. I figure it would be great if you wanted a smoother tone than a bridge pickup for a lead but didn't want a neck tone.

There must be some kind of way to do that. I'm not an expert in designing wiring diagrams, but maybe someone with more skills in that could help out a bit and change the diagram behind this link http://guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUHSH5L1101 to do what you described?
