Mini humbucker vs humbucker

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

I like mini's in the neck slot, for the high-end and clarity. I prefer HB's in the bridge.

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

I have a SM-1 in the neck of my Tele, and it's awesome. So that's another vote for mini (firebird).

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

I just got a Zhangbucker wind for bridge tele and neck mini to match, and its great. The mini has the clarity to sit well with a singlecoil, and because they are low powered anyhow they don't overpower the bridge.

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

I've got an SM-3 in the blue-bound Tele which works great. I think the narrower spread of the mini's stops them getting too muddy, so perhaps more in keeping with what you'd expect from a Tele.

I like mini humbuckers or firebird pups. I use an antiquity II firebird pup in the neck of my tele. sounds awesome!

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

Thanks everyone! It sounds like the mini is the way to go in the tele neck. I don't have much experience with them though. Would I get a good jazz tone out of them? What exactly is the difference in tone/wiring between a normal humbucker?

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

Wiring is the same as with any humbucker. You can get a good jazz tone out of a mini -- you can get it out of a traditional Tele single coil neck if you know how to coax it out of the strings.

Re: Mini humbucker vs humbucker

The both sound good. The mini will generally be a slightly brighter type of pickup, though that is not the case if it is a"hot" mini being compared to a "regular" (i.e. low output) humbucker. I'd say that if you want a fatter sound that is better for leads and thick rhythm sounds, go with the full-sized humbucker. If you want a more clear and crunchy rhythm sound, with more biting leads, go with the mini HB.
