How do you guys wire two mismatched impedance humbuckers to match the volume when both are engaged? It's a Duncan Distortion Bridge and 59 Neck (which has less than half of the DD's impedance)

the DC resistance does not matter when you are wiring them up...

Re: Mismatched Impedance

I mean when both are activated, the neck hum (lower impedance) will take over the bridge (higher impedance) mostly...

no...I mean 2 pickups might not blend well togther but it would have nothing to do with the dc resistance

So this is not true?
This happens when there is an impedance mismatch between the pickups, and the lower impedance single coil shunts (or drains) much of the sound of the higher impedance humbucking pickup. The lower impedance neck pickup, however, is hardly affected by the higher impedance bridge pickup.

Or does it only apply to bridge hum and single coil neck (and not hum neck)?
I might want to coil-split my hums though.

Re: Mismatched Impedance

Not knowing if you have a two vol guitar and if your 50's modded I can't say adjust it out. The pickups you purchased are dedicated to their positions so a magnet flip won't be necessary. Have you done the installation? I think you'll be happy with the balance.

Re: Mismatched Impedance

The strings over the neck pickup will have greater vibration than the bridge pickup(pick a wound string and look at it vibrating over each pickup to see this).
As the greater vibration provides a larger signal to the neck pickup it is desirable to have a lower powered pickup in the neck(in most cases) to balance the volume.

As Lightning said

Re: Mismatched Impedance

My experience agrees with that web site. If the pickups are fairly close in resistence I can't hear it, but with something like a JB/Jazz it has an effect. Maybe you might like the mix, even if it's not "even". If not, you can install separate volume pots or choose pickups that are a better complement in this position. Or maybe try a series connection for the "both on" position instead of a parallel one.
