Mix and match Mesa/Marshall

Can I safely run a JCM800 head on a Mesa Rectifier 4x12 cabinet? If not what would be required to do so?

Re: Mix and match Mesa/Marshall

I believe with a jcm800 running 1 cab, the ohm output is 16ohms, while a mesa 4X12's input ohm rating is 8 ohms.. so that won't work. You could get a weber z-matcher, it's a device that corrects ohm mismatching. You can get one here . They're $80-$100, depending on the wattage of the marshall. Good luck buddy, jcm 800's ROCK. :)

edit: jalin, is your avatar from a Tool video? It looks familiar. I see you also have a silverburst lp... lucky dog!

that would actually be a very good idea, as marshall cabs are a tad thin depth wise causing a decrease in bass response. You'd get a fuller marshall sound through the larger boogie cab.

Re: Mix and match Mesa/Marshall

As long as the impedances match you're OK.

Somewhere on the back of the cab it should say what impedance it is. A JCM800 Marshall should have an impedance selector (4 / 8 / 16) on the back. Just set the impedance selector on the back of the amp so it matches the cab.

Yes it is clay dude from TOOL. I had a couple of silverburst, no more now. What if I were to replace the 8ohm speakers in my Mesa cab to 16ohm speakers to match the Marshall. Would I have to do any wiring change within the speaker cabinet?

Re: Mix and match Mesa/Marshall

This should do it, if all 4 speakers are 16 ohms:

The clay dude looks like the one in the Sober video I think. Either that or I don't know. Tool rocks.

Re: Mix and match Mesa/Marshall

I run a Mesa head on a Marshall box and it sounds great!
