Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

Anybody with experience with the Antiquity 1 series have any thoughts on a setup with the Tele bridge and mid and neck strat pickup in a Tele?

Seems like they all meter out about the same. Just tinkering with some different ideas.

Thanks in advance

Re: Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

i would think that would be a very cool setup

Re: Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

Just don't expect a Strat neck pickup to sound like a Strat neck pickup when the tremolo block isn't present.

Re: Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

i have a few hardtail strats and they still sound like strats. i even have one that has a prs style wrap around tailpiece and it still sounds like a strat. there is a difference for sure, but its not huge

Re: Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

Hmmm. I recently routed a Roadstar from hardtail to 6-point steel block trem and the difference was huge.

Maybe the string-through Fender bridge are closer to a trem than flatmounts are?

im still having a nightmare trying to mix texas ants and surfers in a strat. are the texas and the surfer diff polarity?

i have a surfer neck, RWRP texas middle and texas hot bridge. How in the heck do i wire these up so that everything is in phase and still hum cancelling

For in-phase you just try-in-error, you can exchange the unshielded wires freely.

For hum-canceling one must be not only reverse polarity but also reverse wound.

Re: Mixing Antiquities...Strats with Tele

the texas hot are reverse magnetic polarity than the surfers. fender changed from north polarity (like the texas) to south (like the surfers) in the mid 50's. your surfer and middle texas hot are the same polarity

top loading hard tail bridges sound a world different than the trem or string thru. there is still a difference but the top loaders are my least favorite

... and a big ol' Tele bridge is!

In my opinion, the squeaks and rattles of a Fender Synchronised Misnomer, the sustain robbed away by the spring/block cavity and the self-contained "reverb" effect are all contributary factors to the classic Stratocaster sound - even if you opt never to use the wiggle stick!

Eric Clapton appears to share my view. Robert Cray does not. They both sound a little bit good. Flip a coin or something.

Sustain definitely increased when going to the trem. And that is although it is overall brighter which gives an illusion of shorter sustain (higher overtones decay faster).

I think I have to try a string-through hardtail about this weekend...
