Mixing Pickups.SD/dimarzio/etc

Is it wise to mix pickup manufacturers? I'm buying a lot of pickups at the moment because I want to get the right sound for me?
Current ones I have to try now are.....SD distortion (not liking to much at the moment seems very bright in my guitar) pearly gates plus (love it in the neck)
dimarzio Breed (yet to try this out)dimarzio super distortion (also not had a go with this oneyet?) and also looking at getting my hands on a Bare knuckle pup?
Has anyone got experience of mixing different makes of pups? and what should I look for to make a good tonal balance?
I'm totally new to this ...eeeeeerrrrrrr...shall we say fixation because it's starting to go beyond hobby :D
Cheers fellas.

You shouldn't run into any problems mixing P/u's from different manufacturers. Sometimes they will be out of phase (thin sounding when both p/u's are on) in which case all you need to do is switch the input and output wires on one of the pickups. For Duncans switch the green and black wires, for Dimarzio switch the red and green wires.

to me, diamarzios + duncans make the best combos.

I've got a dimarzio bridge, duncan middle, and carvin neck.

Works flawlessly sounds great.

i mix pups all the time. had a guitar with Duncan, Dimarzio and Lace all inside.
just be careful of the color codes for the wiring too. sometimes ppl make that mistake.

I've got an DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge of an Ibanez RG550 with a full shred in the neck and a vintage rails in the neck...

it's great, but i prefer Full Shreds; much more organic

I finally got around to installing my PATB-2 (bridge) and Dimarzio H4/Breed (neck). Both can be coiltapped, work fine together.

I just switched the wires (green for red of dimarzio) on my pickup set last night, and it sounds 10 times better now.. It was a DSonic + Duncan Jazz combo in Mahogany neckthru. Im still not 100% if im gonna keep the DSonic in there, but wiring correctly makes a big difference when using two diff brands.
