MM pickup advice

Re: MM pickup advice

I don't know if you could do much worse than a Schecter Session. 3 band EQ, active EMG's, and straight forward/ no frills.

I'm just not much on active basses. They're too clean for my tastes. Barts would probably be as close as I'd come to them, with their airy top end.

Some of the mid priced Fender Deluxe PJs (the black ones with the gold pickguard) sound really nice. But I hear active basses as something more useful in funk where the bass has to be up front and not in a case where the bass is contributing to the sound of death metal guitars.

Most of my detuned guitars are active so I like warm passive basses to offset them.

Re: MM pickup advice

Are they generally considered a good company?

Yes. Aguilar certainly adopts a market position for premium products.

Only drawback is it seems this model doesn't have the wiring options I'd like to try and it's only available as an Alnico.

Consider the possibility that less is more. Most Stingray users have just the one pickup. Coil splitting brings no advantage that the onboard active EQ cannot already confer.
