mo cwappy cwips

JeffB

Let it B
threw up another 2 sucky clips from my attempts at recording last week

"more crap" :D is the firebird through the 800 model on the POD XTL. sorry for the " CD skipping" sounds...whenever the pod would clip it does that

"Faded" is the Faded LP standard with a very dry signal..800 model again

Stream them high or low

Edit: new linky (sorry about that)http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=419896

:headbang:

Bro, that Firebird is awesome. Man that thing is smooth smooth smooth. I like it a lot better than the sound of the Faded LP.

Great job doing JP and Maiden too. You've got really good rhythm. I can tap my foot to it and it's right in time.

Re: mo cwappy cwips

You are wayyyyy too kind sir :)

Bird sounds pretty good, eh?.. 498T's don't sound so bad to me  I like the crunch of the LP a bit better for some things, for some things not...

As for my timing.. :smack: :laugh2: ...on the FB track, my timing was horrid!...I've got 60 seconds to record on that windows sound recorder garbage and kept watchin that timer tick down instead of concentrating on the playing  ..I started out too fast and kept speeding up :D

I found a way to get more time (record 60 seconds, then another 60 on top of it, etc) but it's pretty impossible to get the timing right to record an entire "song"

I need to get some better software so I can actually relax, work with a click or drum track and make some decent clips...

Did you prefer the Marshall or the Soldano tone? (the FB and Faded are Marshalls..the other two, Soldano)

Re: mo cwappy cwips

I like the FB through the Marshall better than the LP through the Marshall, go figure. But, of the two models, Soldano sounds better. I think it's because Line6 nailed the JCM800 tone, complete with the added high end that thing was known for.

Now, how does the FB sound through the Soldano? :D

I couldn't really pick up and changes in pace on the FB track. Listen to it and tap your fingers or foot along with it. It's steady.

Well both the 498T and the BB pros have a bit of extra high end bite, and the Soldano (real or otherwise) is a bit more compressed sounding. I also may have had the onboard compression going on the Soldano clips..can't remember. I'll get something together of the Bird and Soldano...

I started out OK, but I think the "skip" is prolly what sounds screwy to me, and then I jumped the gun a bit right near the end...: shrug:

Pac, yeah XTL doesn't sound too bad for recording..still not "great" to my ears..chording sounds real good, but where it falls short is on lead playing...single note stuff...sounds really glitchy ...all modellers do to my ears...through headphones, it just sounds awful...the little bluesy stuff I did on "goof1" sounded HORRID when I was playing it...came out a bit better recorded.

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Hey, about music recording software, I use this free recording program called KRISTAL (http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/index.php) which can be found at this link. I had delay problems, and I fixed it with a soundcard update file called ASIO. If you decide to use this and have delay problems when recording, PM me.

I am so all over this. Thanks, man.

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Jeff, were all those done with the POD XT ?

I wasn't very impressed with the tones on their website, but yours sound much fuller & heavier.....I wonder if they use their Variax line for recording on the website, thus the thinner sound?

Whatever......I liked the 'Bird clip, so of course I'm jonesing even more!!!

Maybe we can work on that tune next I'm over at the clubhouse???!!!:laugh2:

Ask your Mom to make some more of those brownies:bigthumb:

First of all..thanks Shredaholic :)

Terry,

Yup POD XT live directly into my computer, using Windows Sound Recorder. Just the amp, cab and mic simulations. A little "tape echo" sim on all but the faded LP track. Soldano and 800 models. And just the amps EQ, none of the parametric, etc. I had them all mic'ed "off axis" with the SM57 model, and they are all running through a 25 Watt Greenback cabinet model.

Yup, they sound pretty full considering. I don't like the clips on the L6 site either...but through the Rivera or into the compy there are some good tones to be found with tweaking (actually with the 800, you can dime everything like a real marshall and it still sounds great). In fact I've been able to tweak some better sounds of the bird w/ the 800 model..that one clip I think was pretty much the first one I ever did. Sounds pretty good too through the JTM45...I'll see if I cant get one of those up soon.

Heh...my mom doesn't bake..but she makes some mean fried chicken, biscuits and gravy :D

Re: mo cwappy cwips

BISCUITS & GRAVY......OH HELL YEAH!!!!!

"Jeffy's Mom
Has got it going on....."

I was thinking about the POD XT Live but after hearing their clips, I thought I'd wait to hear some reviews on the M-Audio Black Box........I like your clips though....we'll see!

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Well..she's 100% Italian, but I AM from the South and she learned from a long line of southern cooks, so... :D

IMO, the clips they put up don't do the XTL justice...except for the Plexi clips they have....those actually sound BETTER than they really are...the plexi models blow, which is very disappointing...I get more realistic plexi tones out of the 58 Bassman model run into the greenback cab

JTM45 rocks though and makes up for it...

Although it's no tube amp..for recording and late night practice through a GOOD amp (*cough* NOT THE ATOMIC* cough* ) , it's alot of "bang for the buck"..The effects are pretty darn good too...

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Don't know how I missed this thread ... Maiden AND Priest clips! And well played, to boot!!

First of all, your phrasing and overall timing is really good, Jeff! I think the Green Manalishi clip was played way too fast, tho. It lost that 70s groove that makes it so cool. You should definitely take another crack at it, slowed down, double track it, and pan it hard left and right for an approach that's closer to the original.

As for the Two Minutes to Midnight, you almost have it perfect! You just need to add some vibrato to those longer phrases.

The tone is good. There's a bit of background noise, which is weird from a modeler; or does the POD also model the thermal noise of tubes, too?! LOL

psssttt..that was victim of changes :D Yeah...def too fast, my reasoning is elsewhere in this thread but to be brief...I dont have any recording software...thats just the little crappy windows XP sound recorder thing and selecting the POD as my "recording device". I only have 60 seconds, so I'm trying to cram $hit in that time limitation...and because my headphone cord is short, the background noise is interference from my lappy w/ the pups. I can't double or triple track anything..LOL hard enough just to get a single track down! :D

As for the Two Minutes to Midnight, you almost have it perfect! You just need to add some vibrato to those longer phrases.

Yup, def was a little soft there...I actually have a better recording of it where I think I pretty much nailed it, but it's full of the clipping glitches :(

The tone is good. There's a bit of background noise, which is weird from a modeler; or does the POD also model the thermal noise of tubes, too?! LOL

Noise explained above, but the POD models EVERYTHING..you kick on "pedals and the buzz/hum is there...800 model with a TS on is just as noisy as a real one...there is noise reduction, but I don't like it's effect on the tone and sustain.

Thanks for your feedback Ben! :) Now If I could just get enough recording time to do The Prisoner justice :D

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Jeff, I'm sure you can score a cheap/free version of recoring software from someplace! You'll be happy you did!

Re: mo cwappy cwips

Jeff, did ya happen to read post #7 from Sean? I downloaded and installed it already and it is pretty nice.
