Modelling Amp v. Normal Solid-state

Financially I can't get a JVM410H and the closest thing I can think of is a modelling amp.Anyone can tell me about any modelling amp better than my MG50CFX?I want a late 80's (Master of Puppets,Peace Sells, Raining Blood type)thrash metal tone out of it AND a hard rock type tone (ACDC like). I was thinking about a Vox Valvetronix but I've heard a Line 6 Spider IV is better.HALP

Zacker, that's an old topic around here, and it's been well-thrashed.

If that's all you can afford, then find what gets you close... It's highly subjective.
Get your hands on a Line 6 and find out.
An A/B with a Valvetronix is ideal, but good luck finding a retail store with that much patience (and a lack of school kids trying to copy old VH licks...
no dis intended if you're a school kid!).
YouTube vids will only give you a rough estimate, since their website sound is extremely compressed to start with.

One can find a Peavey Bandit used at an extremely nice price

Swap the speaker
And plug in distortion pedals to taste

Re: Modelling Amp v. Normal Solid-state

You don't even need distortion pedals with a Bandit. Just an overdrive if you want to push it beyond thrash and into death territory.

If you have to have a modeller, get a Peavey Vypyr with a 12" speaker.

If you're going solid state (or hybrid), there's LOTS of good combos out there.

H&K Warp
Marshall Valvestate
Ibanez TBX
Peavey Bandit / XXL
Randall RG75

I've got one of each of those and they're all killer. Any of those can be had in the $100-$200 range if you shop around. Just make sure you get a 12" speaker (or two).

Re: Modelling Amp v. Normal Solid-state

I dug my randall rg75 for thrashy stuff. Not the most versatile thing in the world and the stock speaker is a lower end celestion, but it makes you want to play thrashy riffs through it. Super solid and people practically give them away used. Not the best for ac/dc on its own but clean channel takes pedals well.

Vox Valvestate 120 was the best Marshall emulation I found when I was in your shoes.
I needed more versatility so I got a Line6 Flextronics III at the time (anything with the Vetta engine)
I also have a SansAmp PSA-1 rack unit through any clean amp does the job also.
