Re: Modelling Amps
Don't forget that Johnson (millenium?) head that went for like a grand that is worth about 10 bucks now. I tried one of those many years ago at GC, and I couldn't believe how bad it was. Turn it up, and the hiss alone drowns your playing.
I think you're list is kind of strange, because you narrow down things too much it seems. For example, there's a bunch of sansamps and a bunch of v-amp type stuff, and digitech has a tone of rack stuff that models. Even before modelling, you had rack stuff that had different types of sounds which was sort of like modelling.
Also, most amp companies now have modelling stuff, but they all have their different take on it, so to make an all-inclusive list might be a little bit of a chore.
Then it's complicated by stuff like the guys at line 6 taking off and forming their own company, damage control, which makes some killer tube pedals that aren't really modellers, but look hella versatile and give some rack gear a run for its money.
I'd say grab a musicians friend and poke through it while on the crapper, dog-ear a bunch of stuff that looks cool and is in your price range, then hit up harmony-central.com and here for more detailed reviews about those few products. At least that's what I do, and it works out pretty well.
