Modern Player Tele - Seymour Duncan SH-11 Humbucker Wiring

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place, but hoping that someone can help out here;

The bridge pickup has three wires.

I've picked up a Seymour Duncan SH-11 humbucker for the bridge, which has four wires; a black that doesn't exist on the tele's current humbucker.

I assumed that the switch on the modern player was to split the coils, but I think I might be wrong, having looked inside. I wasn't planning on a complex setup with extra switching, I bought it from the store, and assumed i'd be able to drop it in.

Can anyone suggest where I should be wiring this pickup to?

Welcome to the forum.

The black wire on your Seymour Duncan pickup is the same as the red wire coming from the Fender bridge pickup in the Modern Player Tele diagram you posted. The red+white wires on your Seymour Duncan pickup, when soldered together, are the same as the single white wire on the Fender mini-toggle coming from the bridge. You would solder the red and white of the Duncan pickup to where the white Fender bridge wire is now. Green is the same on both Fender and Duncan, according to what that Modern Player diagram is showing.

(Note, there is a color code wire diagram on this Seymour Duncan site, but the Fender colors as seen in the Modern Player diagram you posted appear to be reversed - perhaps the pickup is wired out of phase in that particular guitar? I'm not sure why, but just be aware.)

Interesting you mention the colour code on the modern player being reversed - in my researching, I've stumbled across this; http://robrobinette.com/TelecasterMod.htm

where he suggests that: "Seymour Duncan pickups have the opposite polarity as modern Fender pickups so the new Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound RW/RP mid pickup is South up--the same as the neck pickup."

Not sure if that same thing applies here? If so, do I just need to swap the black/red&white? anything I can do to be sure before diving in?
