locrian anyone???
if anyone could help me use this mode to make an acceptabe sound it would be much apeciate.

iv had quite alot of fun with dorian and mixolydian modes but locrian and phygian seem quite unusable, locran more-so.

A name like "Shred me good" and you don't know how to use the Phrigian Mode? ;) Set up a pounding drum rhythm over a repeating: "I ii" chord progression (C5, Db5) and blast up and down and around on the C Phrigian mode...

Locrian is very difficult, more of a :transition mode" Use it over a "V7 i" transition at the end of a minor progession. (G7, Cm)
(I think... lol I forgot which 5 chord it sounds good over)

realy it was locrian i was more confustled about...
i heard somwhere that at some point (maby the greeks, they did loadsa stuff) the modes were all worked out, and each mode was symbolic of some mood. ionian dorian and aeolian seem to have very easely distinguishable moods. ionian happy blah blah. but what the hell is a locrian mode!!!! the sound of general unhappyness and disonence. i tried a v7 i progretion but there are still only 2 or three notes that dont sound REALY baaaaad!:gurmpy:

does anyone know of a piece of music using the locrian mode?
or could anyone write one???

Think of modes as ingredients in a recipe. Things like chicken and beef (Ionian and aeolian) you can use a ton of. Other items like Cumin (Locrian) can only be used a little at a time or will overpower and be offensive.

I'm sure that you understand how modes are created, each one starting on a different degree of the Major scale. That means that each degree of the scale must have a name for it's corresponding mode, even though some are nearly useless. The Locrian is this mode... It has a name assigned but it's really a difficult mode to use. I'd look at scales like the Harmonic and Melodic Minor before trying to force the Locrian Mode to work.

I believe locrian is used a lot in greek wedding music
not very radio friendly stuff
