Mods To The MXR Distortion + (Newer Series)

Today my buddy Brian wanted me to mod his MXR Distortion + because he wanted to sell it otherwise...I came up with some tweaks and I used better caps and metal film resistors, and changed the diode arrangement over to asymetrical clipping with different style diodes...I was able to get a much fuller and smoother tone from Brian's pedal...I've played through older versions of this pedal and I never liked it's peaky mids and bright and harsh sounding gainey distortion...I think Brian will like his pedal,as I Know I did....This was a newer yellow Dunlop model...

I have one I've been thinking of selling ... I was surprised that the newer ones go for about $80 new!

More than likely....Looks like the schematic shows things as being the same..

what about the zakk distortion? ever seen that one up close and opened up?
make that harshness go away and leave the smooth high gain overdrive hehe

Looks like the Zakk model is the MXR D+ with some tweaks and a tone control...Can't find a schematic for this one as of yet?

I also found out that you have to peg the volume control and then adjust the distortion and amp volume settings from there...If you leave the pedal's output volume too low you get all that shrill highend distortion...I could also call the distortion "harsh"...

You know what, I might just have to send my Distortion + and Tubescreamer to you to mod. I've been wanting to get them modded for some time, and you have a very good rep as a pedal modder. This is exactly what I wanted from a Dist + too. What do you do for your Tubescreamer mods (mine's a TS-7)?
