Mooer Micro Preamp 010 — quick review
I grabbed one of these at a great price from Prymaxe for when I am in preproduction, as stacking tracks with amp sims slows my Mac Mini to a crawl. I am also planning on using it live for my soundscape/generative pieces where I can’t carry an actual amp in addition to the wall of synths I need to schlep to a gig.
The unit sounds fine, takes other pedals well, the cab sim works just fine. Overall, does precisely what it says on the tin. When I am tracking with it I mult the guitar signal with a DI for later reamping.
The only two things in the Minus column - 1) the unit runs anywhere from warm to VERY warm, 2) the output is quite hot. It’s a balancing act getting it not to clip the input of a mixer unless you are running at +4.
Do I like it better than using amp sims? Yes
Do I like it better than an actual physical guitar amp? No
Does it get the job done? Yes
Would I recommend it to someone else? Yes
Would I use this as a primary guitar sound in a recording? No (same applies to amp sims, though)
