More 80's Power Ballads

My contribution to the 80's Power Ballad dumpster. Some of it turned out alright, some of it needs some help... but it's a snapshot of where I'm at.

Title: 80's Power Cheese

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/1/jammermattmusic.htm

Turn down the house lights, grab the girl next to you, and get out your lighters for this Stadium Rock closer.

MIJ Jackson Dinky and USA Jackson Soloist through Line 6 Flextone XL (Modern Hi-Gain) into Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro 3.

Backing track is from Boss JS-5 Jam Station. In listening to it, I think it's too far back in the mix... but it could be the lo-fi download.

Oh man, you weren't joking about the cheese!

The backing track is the cheesiest thing on earth lol

The lead melody at the start is cool, but a bit loud in the mix.

I like the change to heavier but again its a bit loud, tbh I'd lose that whammy thing at the start of that but thats just me.

The solo is pretty well structured, nice work!

Hey! That is actually really cool!

The beginning is really nice... complements the cheese well. :D I particularly like the part starting at 40 seconds... lovely... :P

The harder lead work I didn't like as much since it didn't flow as well IMO...

But still, great work! Some notes seemed to be slightly out of tune, but apart from that, it's cool.

Yeah, I agree about the mix. I might go back and tweak it and reload it. It sounded okay on the Cakewalk, but the conversion to MP3 did something.

The beginning half was the part I was pretty happy about. It was total cheese, but I think it was pretty okay for being melodic. The 2nd half was the part that needs help. I couldn't quite get what was in my head (technique technique technique). It went okay until the final run, where it gets off-key. It was 80-degress in my room, I got tired of screwing with it, and just let it go. Chalked it up for something else to work on.

Here was the big lesson(s) I took from this little ditty:
1. Playing along with a record is way different than actually putting it out there solo. Mistakes can't be hidden very easily.

2. I have a new-found respect for folks like Satch and Vai who can put down an hour's worth of ideas. This cut was like 1-1/2 minutes, and I was running out of stuff.

3. Need to consider a new soundcard. The one I have squashes the sound. Sounds dull, like through a pillow. Pinch harmonics are one-dimensional.

Thanks for giving it a listen.

Re: More 80's Power Ballads

I liked it! Reminded me of Ravel's Bolero ... that's not a compliment or a critcism, just a musical observation. You can see the heavy part coming from a mile away, just the way it's supposed to with this kind of stuff! Very well done!
I love hearing the other 80's rockers on this forum cranking it up! :D

argh! that backing track is.. *twitch*

but the guitar playing O.o niiice (allthough the backing rythm guitar could be louder, cos i can hear a real sweet chug chug sound in the back :D)

:laugh2: :laugh2: Yeah, it doesn't come much worse. It was a track called "Keyboard Ballad" or something like that.

Yeah, after listening again, Pachelbel Canon in D comes to mind. Made me want to tie the knot again!!!

Thanks for the review. Now that it's out of my system I don't ever have to do another Power Ballad.
