More Models on the VOX DA5

JeffB

Let it B
Here's another clip of sonme of the other models folks asked about from my previous clip.

It starts out with the Rectumfrier, and then I believe I name them all in the clip itself.

first clip at top of page

EDIT: this one may sound a little darker/noisier as I had the fan on in the room to keep from sweating my nads off :D

Re: More Models on the VOX DA5

"And heres that Dumble Super Overdrive-thing...thing thats way overpriced." :laugh2: I dunno why but I found that really funny, the way you said it probably.

Great clips and playing! The DA5 is starting to look and sound like a really nice small amp for late night practicing and travel.

Pretty good, is that a yardbirds tune on the AC30 model?

Thank You, and Indeed is is :)

Rid, it sure sounds different in person. Dont know how well it translates in my cheap @$$ recordings :D The first Da5 clip is the V. This one was the Explorer.

Corbic, Thank You, and glad ya got a chuckle out of it :)

Very nice Jeff and great playing... I almost bought one 6 moths ago... I didn't because it would have been my only amp at the time.. But the tone of this little thing is amazing. I almost regret not buying it when I hear your clip.

Thank You Sly! :)

Right now it's not my only amp, I still have my MG30 and my PODXTL/Atomic but they are for sale. I dont gig at all these days and this little sucker is just perfect for my needs. It does pretty much any sound I would ever use. Just wish I could program a couple sounds like ya can with the VTs.

You should hear it in person, bro. I musta got 2 freakin lemon VTs. I played through a 15/30 today and Although not as tight as the DA5, they sounded alot better than my 30/50 did and the Tonelab just sounded awful through the atomic. As much as I've expressed my lack of satisfaction with the VTs/TL I gotta give credit where credit is due and say this little thing is by far the best modeller I've tried yet. Not digtal sounding AT ALL. The bassman part where I got clean playing the jazzy stuff was all picking dynamics...I didnt roll the volume down on the guit.:eek13:

Re: More Models on the VOX DA5

indeed surprising. a direct comparison to the micro cube would be interesting

Re: More Models on the VOX DA5

Just listened again through the headphones. The Soldano model just kills. Sounds incredible. Nice take on "Dreams In The Dark". :D All the models sound really good.

The Soldano is wicked cool for leads but is a little flubby on the low end. It's a weird model, and basically is just like the real ones I've played...you gotta soak the gain to get leads to sound really good and fatten up, but then it's too much for chording...flubby. Back the gain off for rhythm and the lead sounds gets thin and anemic. In a superstrat it may be diff, but thats my experience with the real thing & gibson type stuff.

Re: More Models on the VOX DA5

I think the amazing tone may have to do with the size of the speaker, it's as if Vox found the perfect combination of amp and speaker size for their models. Go figure, it sounds less digital and is way less thin and ear-splitting than both the AD15VT and AD30VT (I know pretty dang well, cause I bought both and return both back to the store).

This little DA5 is on my list for a fool-around-the-house amp. I know I'll dig it a lot... as long as I still have the Traynor with me for recordings and deafening myslef once in a while :D

:reporter: I think you are right re: the speaker. And possibly in combination with the VT being overly sensitive to tube quality/wattage/volume. I had to re-tweak all the time with 30/50, if I changed the volume in any small amount (either through the actual V/MV or the wattage selector) It totally messed up the "patch". It was a nightmare. Some of the models like the Dumble Overdrive and TSL just sounded horrendous, and I never enjoyed them. The Dumble sounds REALLY good on the DA5. It's like night and day.
