moses graphite necks

Re: moses graphite necks

They do retrofits (strat, tele) and they also did the graphite necks for Steinberger guitars, back when they had bolt on graphite neckts.

I own two steinbergers with graphite moses necks and they are quite incredible. I have not been able to try the retrofit necks but would assume a similar fit/feel. They are medium C necks but very comfortable and fast. Graphite feels unlike any other neck but the closest thing would be a satin finish.

Only downside is that I wish mine had stainless steel frets (or at least for the zero fret).

WD-40 is what you will have to use to clean them. Other, more traditional cleaners will dry out the graphite.

Re: moses graphite necks

Never heard of 'em. Are they just made for retrofits?

they can do entire basses out of graphite or anything crazy and custom you can think of. The basic strat neck costs about what a warmoth neck would for me so i thought i would look into it

Re: moses graphite necks

Ive heard reports of twisted necks and bad service.

I read a lot of b.s. online.

They no longer make necks for steinberger so they must be doing something right to stay in business. Calling them + asking tons of questions is always gives a good indication of service quality.

Re: moses graphite necks

I bought one for one of my Steinbergers, but it didn't fit. I ended up sending the body and neck to them, twice, and they shaved too much on one side, and not enough on the other, so my neck had gaps on one side, and cracked the finish of the body on the other.
Now, I loved the feel of the neck, and if it had fit properly, I would have kept it. They just kinda left a sour taste after my experience though.

Re: moses graphite necks

Which steinberger did you buy a neck for?

Thanks for replying to my Steinberg questions 6 months ago. I now own 2 GR4s and they are my main guitars, beating out a Music Man Petrucci and top of line Japanes Ibanez. I don't know if I'd be able to adjust to anything smaller in body size but these things are pure fun.

Re: moses graphite necks

This was for a cheaper GU Spirit model. They advertised that they made direct replacements for it, so I ordered one. After what I went through, they took that info off their website for awhile. I hear they re-engineered a Spirit neck, so those problems might not be there now, but it was my experience. I do like the sound and feel of graphite though, so I am happy they are still around making necks. If they made headless necks for the ZT3, I'd be interested in trying one.

Re: moses graphite necks

Moses gets a lot of grief over the hardware necessary for attaching the graphite neck to the guitar. An insert is required in the graphite neck for strength. They also have some quality control issues but I don't know if these are isolate incidents or not.

Note that you can obtain a simple graphite fingerboard from moses which can be mounted (via typical hyde glue) on a maple (or whichever wood you prefer) neck. This allows the neck to join the body just like an all wood neck. The graphite fingerboard is much prefered for playing. Very smooth, very fast, very black, very consistent, & very stable. I plan a maple/graphite fingerboard strat super slim neck for my china-caster in the not too distant future. I think it's a very desireable combination.

You can also check out the epoxy-glass/maple neck on the parker guitars. I like the graphite fingerboard better, but the concept is the same - hightech fingerboard over wood neck. The parkers have their own vibe, check 'em out.

Good Luck

Re: moses graphite necks

is there any other graphite neck companies that are as good or better?? I just kind of stumbled across this one

Re: moses graphite necks

Graphite is crisper and cleaner than maple. Kinda hi-fi.

+1.

It's kinda "dead" in a good way. Very even response and there are no dead spots or any unevenness (is that a word) anywhere on the neck. I absolutely love mine.

The strings on my Hohner "Steinberger" has gnawed into the zero fret. Every time I bend the strings they sort of hop out of the grove in the zero fret and fall back when the bend is released (at least some times - and some times they stay out).
May sound like a minor detail, but it gets incredibly annoying in the long run.

Re: moses graphite necks

I have a Moses neck on a Strat partscaster. The body is a no name POS that weighs a ton but the neck keeps me picking the thing up. Response is KILLER all over the neck just super even, harmonics abound and she sustains well. Tone is balanced and snappy and the neck feels great in your hand. I traded for the guitar assembled and picked it up just for the neck. I dropped a SSL1/Alnico II RWRP/ SSL-6 set up in it with a standard 5 way and tone wise the guitar is a KILLER!!
I need to swap boddies so it looks better and is not so much of a back breaker but I LOVE that neck!!
