SD Jazz - sounds like what you're describing
thanks but i meant of the two i listed
:)
I really wanted to know if it would be wiser to go with a custom or the air zone?
i have a tone zone i am selling now,and am told the air one is a lot more dynamic but basically the same tone?
and many rave over the custom so i want to find out of these two which best fits the description of most dynamic, clear and articulate?

I'd choose the Air Zone.

OK but does it have that WHA like tone when playing leads?
all the dimarzio's i have tried did?
(breed,paf pro,tone zone)

Not all DMZ's are like that, anyway, the custom would probably be the clearer of the two (the mid scoop); However the AZ would probably be the more dynamic, since a lot of the dynamic control is in the midrange (*touch* in clean to overdrive) ... this is just a guess though as I have never A/B'ed them.

I must say that I don't find the Custom scooped at all......nice thick midrange.

Many say that the Air Zone is like the Van Halen tone on F.U.C.K. I had it once and to me sounded like Van Halen as he opens on "The dream is over".

Answering your question, if you found the Tone Zone to have that WHA feel, then the Air Zone will have it, too. The AZ's based on the TZ, the only difference I think is that "Air"-trick in the pickup, that's similar to lowering the TZ under the strings. But you could ask this from the company itself, DiMarzio has a very quick e-mail customer support. For me, the Tone Zone and the Air Zone are my favourites in my two el.guitars.
I bought one yesterday at GC and it is a huge improvement over the TZ. that wha tone is not as prodominant,it is much more subtle?
so far it is the best i have tried,i still want to get a duncan custom to solve my last curiosity
