I want an amp that's good for tones from Cold Play, David Gray, to Weezer and Pink Floyd, to Allman Brothers whippin post.
Will that Crate V3112 do it for me??

There's a few amps that'll cover that territory. Tonally speaking, that list isn't too broad.
I'd recommend a fender hot rod deville and a decent overdrive pedal and delay pedal.
Dunno much about the new crates, unfortunately...

I'd go with something like a fender bassman and a nice overdrive. my rig is basically that and I don't have a problem getting any of those types of tones. Weezer is really the extreme end there, and to get that you could probably just crank your OD or get a distortion.

Vox Valvetronix VTX 60 OR VTX 120...Covers alot of ground and won't cost you a kid and both arms!

+1 Buy a Valvetronix head, and put it on a good 2-12 or 4-12. They sound very close to the best tube amps, they do every tone under the sun, and they don't cost too much, especially used.

The Crate VC series has some nice tones. I think it would get in that direction, but a Fender will be closer still. A Hot Rod will have a lot of power, so you man also want to look at the Blues Jr. The Jr would benefit from a heavier pedal on the front end like a Distortion.
If you need a lot of power, or have room to crank your amp go with a tweed bassman reissue. The swirling sound of those tens is great, and you can pick them up used for significantly less. Also if you put in a tube rectifier you can cut back on the power, and get a bit more compression.
Also regardless of what amp you end up with look for a SD pup booster, it will thicken up your leads, or get you some crunch earlier. I use that, and a Boss SD-1 (Super Overdrive) to get my OD earlier.

Mine sounds killer through a Marshall V30 4x12 slant cab....I Like it alot better than the Vox AD 2x12 cab which I need to replace the Neo-Dogs in..
You can see the VTH 120 head and the 4x12 cab behind me to the left...

For reference, the bloke out of Coldplay tours with Hot Rod devilles. I think the vox valvetronix suggested by others is also a good choice, though. Get to a shop and kick some tyres, I reckon.

Oddly enough,I've been using this Vox setup and not my Vintage tube Marshall/Fender stuff....My ears change though and then I use these other amps...I Like the choices I have in life though... :wave:

Thanks for the tips. I may not have considered the Hot Rod or the Vox had I not asked. I'll be sure to check them out. I'm sure one of 'em will be just right for me.
