Mounting to wood

Can anyone give me advice on mounting humbuckers directly to wood? What sort of screws to use, and should I use shims like washers to raise the height or are there springs that can go between the pickups and the body to do the job?

if you are screwing into wood, use small wood screws. the other option is to get a threaded metal insert and use machine screws. i have a guitar that has each and the inserts is the way to go if you can find them.
either way you can use either surgical tubing or screws to keep the pup up. never tried washers but if you could find the right size im sure they would work
another way is to put foam (like the suff that comes with a duncan or emg pup) under the pup
