Multi Effects Setup Question

I found this on the Marshall Forum, instructions on how to setup a Boss ME 70 using an amp's effects loop:

I would plug your guitar straight into the input of the MA50.

Then plug your amps FX Loop (OUT) into the GUITAR IN of your BOSS ME-70, then plug the GUITAR AMP OUT (L.MONO) of the BOSS ME-70 into the FX Loop (Return) of your amp.

Does this setup apply to all multi effects pedals or is it just the ME 70?

Re: Multi Effects Setup Question

It depends on what you want from the ME-70

I'd would plug the guitar into the input of the ME-70.
Then i would plug the mono output from the ME-70 into the amp input,
in order to use the on board eq...or...if you are using the amp simulations
in the ME-70, I would plug the mono output from the ME-70 into the effects
return of the amp, thus bypassing the preamp.

I would do it as Marshall suggests only if I was planning on getting all my
OD/distortion from the amp and just using the ME-50 for effects other then dirt.

it can work, just don't send more than -10 dBu to the ME-70 input.

Agreed.
Just a little pet peeve I have with Boss is the fact they don't make an effects processor without Sim preamps. I would love a ME or GT style that has the 4 cable method and no Preamps inside. Just OD's for out front with Noise gates Wah etc , then Chorus , Delay , etc in the effect loop. This would be Ideal for many guitarist and I'm sure many in here would agree. I don't know how many times I have been told " Why can't they just leave the modeling out? , I like my amps channels and just want a programmable effects processor that I don't have to pedal push multiple times to get what I want."

Re: Multi Effects Setup Question

You can certainly buy a box that just does reverb and other time based effects.

The ME-50 doesn't have amp sims.
