Music stores in England--advice?

Got a bud who is in Sweden at the moment on business, then he's gonna wing on over to London and jam with the Stones! :laugh2:

Okay, he's going to be in London, Bath and Shrivenham. I guess if you can tell me the name of the place and what street it's on, that would be great. He just wants to look, but in case he actually buys anything, who is good and who's a rip? Don't have to be new stuff, can be a cool used place or pawn shop.

Enlighten me brothers over the pond!

Re: Music stores in England--advice?

I've been over to the UK twice in the past 3 years.... there is a street in London that has about 10 guitar shops... New/used...... one of the largest was Music Ground.... i can't quite remember the streets name but i think it was Denmark Street.... this was near London's Theatre district

But to be honest guitar/amp prices are high in the UK for a traveler... The exchange rate and duty tax when you land back home is insane.... plus the prices of gear in general is higher then the USA/Canada.... Oddly i think Canada has the lowest prices on the top American gear brands these days... If it was not for the high exchange rate or the Taxes i would of brought home a Hiwatt Pete Townshend signature head from Music Ground!

Denmark Street, off Charing Cross Road. Around the corner there are a few more shops on Charing Cross Road, but there are loads of shops on Denmark Street.

Yep there are some great shops stock-wise on Denmark Street, but it seems you pay premium prces to shop there. Not cheap by any means!

Thanks a million guys. I'll let him know. I doubt he's going to buy anything. He's got nothing to do and wants to go check out the music scene and hot spots. I think the only way he would buy is if he sees something he just HAS to have. He has never been a victim of GAS as far as I can see. He's 39 and only has two guitars and one amp. Meanwhile, I need an extra wing for all the crap I've bought, lol.

I would buy something just to say I picked it up in England. A pedal, some cables etc....that would be so cool imho. At the moment he's trying to contain himself with all the big boob, long legged blondes in Sweden. He has to keep reminding himself he's married with two kids, lol.

So you can tell everyone you paid twice the price you would have at home?:laugh2:

When i was over in England me and a buddy hunted thru the guitar shops looking for something to say WE Bought It In England too.... but in the end almost everything we saw we could get at home much, much cheaper. I looked for some pedals that may of been sold in the UK or Europe only... nothing much around at the bunch of stores i saw...

I was following a friends band around the UK a little bit... they were on tour and i went to London, Brighton, Oxford, and Manchester on the 2 trips over there.... i never did get to check out any shops outside of London due to time limits on my trip to each city... It was mostly, run into town see the band, either go back to London at 3am to my hotel or hit the hotel in town and be on the road again when i got up. Oneday i wish i could really SEE the UK... besides what you can see out a bus or train window. But i have to say those were best holidays i ever had... drunk all the time, traveling like crazy, seeing a band every night, traveling with 10 other nuts like me....
