Musician's Friend has JCA50H amps for CHEAP

Re: Musician's Friend has JCA50H amps for CHEAP

Done. Is it bad that my first thought is, "I wonder how hard it would be to mod this for EL34s"?

Thanks for the heads up.

Sweet, I'm glad you took advantage of it!

Let me know how you like the amp.

You get the amp yet?? Id love to know how it is.. I was very impressed with the little 20 watter I had, except that is was just alittle limited

Depending on how old it is (year of manufacture) really easy. The earlier ones require changing the PT as they are right at the amperage limit when running EL34 which isn't ideal. The newer ones have plenty of overhead. It will say on the top of the PT what the 6.3v winding spec is.

Let me know when you get it and i'll run you through what you need to do. It's literally 4 resistor changes.

I started to write you a PM yesterday! Amp should be here Monday. I hope the loop doesn't expect a line level signal, but that's a whole other issue.

Re: Musician's Friend has JCA50H amps for CHEAP

I don't know why anyone thinks a cheap amp is better than a cheap guitar? Mediocrity is mediocrity. I don't want to disparage those needing budget gear, but you aren't getting premium sound from this, not to mention the questionable build quality or design of Chinese gear. I guess for the price, it is what it is.

The loop is unfortunately the line level loop in every one of the 50hs that I've seen.

It can be adjusted to be 0db but it does change the sound of the amp doing so.

Another option is to leave the loop as is and bridge it internally then add another loop that's a bit more suited to your needs.

Had to spend spare funds on other needs, but I wanted forumites to take advantage of it.

Got it today, and only had about twenty minutes to play around with it. I'll post a real NAD thread tomorrow. With pics, because it happened.

EL34s draw more heater current than 6L6s, so while it is possible to convert the amp, it may cause other issues if the transformer can't keep up. I ran into this when I converted one of the old Yamaha/Soldanos to EL34s.

*EDIT* DOH, missed Toe-Knee's post...

Okay, Toe-Knee, here's what the top of the PT says:
BLK-WHT-RED BLU-WHT-BRN
Fuse - 100V - 120V Fuse - 100V - 120V

YW PT - JCA50H
RED - WHT - BLK - RED
350V - 58V - 0 - 350V
BLU - BLK - BLU BRN - BRN
3.15V - 0 - 3.15 V 0 - 11.5V

I don't see any amperage specs anywhere...
