Musicman pickups

Which is hotter? The Alnico or ceramic pickup. I am just curious. One has the alnico polepieces, and the ceramic has the giant under humbucker magnets...

Re: Musicman pickups

I was wondering if anyone had directly compared the two. I am debating putting one of each in a bass with series, parallel and split switches. Basically wondering where to put each first so I wouldn't have to loosen up the bass strings an extra time and run the risk of fatiguing and snapping one

Re: Musicman pickups

To compensate for the different amounts of excursion along the length of a vibrating string, it is conventional to place the hotter pickup closer to the bridge.

Yes, I am aware of that. I am just also aware that ad-copy is very often functionally not correct. Hence, why I was asking. And the ad copy does not directly compare the two. It calls the ceramic hotter voiced, and the alnico, 1976 voiced. However, they are not compared at all if you actually read the description. And a hotter sound to me does not indicate actual output level, (which is what I was interested in.)

I can read and actually building 30+ guitars from scratch and repairing hundreds others have left me with a pretty good functional understanding of most of the whys. However I haven't messed with SD's Musicman offerings previously.
