MXR Phase 90 problem

Hey bros!

Has been awhile since I posted here but I've got a problem I was hoping someone could help me with.

My EVH Phase 90 has developed a problem - when it's turned on the volume level drops dramatically and no effect is heard. It's the same for either battery or AC adaptor. I've guessed it's a problem with the switch and a quick google search turned up evidence that this is pretty common to these pedals but there isn't anything to suggest a remedy for it. I've had it about 3 years and had no problems up til now.

Anyone able to help me out?

Re: MXR Phase 90 problem

Hey mate, I can't offer any solutions - the only way to track down these sort of problems is a step-by step testing.

You can sometimes see a dodgey solder joint by discoloration of the solder, and reflowing or a complete redo of the joint can be an easy fix. Other than that you can test the joints manually with a multimeter, or take it to a tech. Its fair to say that there is power getting through, and from both sources. You just need somehow to see whether the switch then the components are blocking most of the power/signal.

Ayup mate!

Another good test to do is to play a chord (or or just general sound) and let it ring out and then with your thumb press the switch down very slowly until it engages. If the switch is broken you may notice there's a point in the travel of the switch where you notice it's cutting out. I had a similar problem with the switches on a ZVex booster and this is how he told me to determine if the switches were the problem.
