My 1st 'real' clip

Hey guys.

Just thought I'd let you know that I've finally recorded a clip and thought I'd post it.

The guitar is a 98 Gibson Les Paul Standard with a set of Seth Lover pickups. The amp is a Marshall JTM60 1x12 combo.

I'll apologise now for the playing but my speakers are rubbish and I couldn't hear much of the backing track. I'll re-do it at the studio or when I get some better speakers.

Thanx to Jolly for hosting it for me :D

I like the tone but I reckon you could've cut in the mix more - but based upon my recordings I'm in no place to complain! :laugh2:

The tune made me feel sad, that's powerful stuff.

Few bends here and there sounded a bit out to me, but other than those few things - it rocks in a bluesy way :)

Good work Craig! Was it improvised?

Thanx for the opinion Rainmaker!

I know I was slightly out of time and tune in places, but I'm blaming that on the speakers ;)

I was having difficulty getting a good level into the PC; it was either too loud or too quiet. So I went for too loud :D I really need a decent Mic pre-amp.

A decent set of speakers would help too, that way I could hear what I was playing to :D

I'm gonna take the backing track to the studio next week and hopefully re-do it.

I didn't improvise any of it, that's more or less how the original is (but better, obviously :D)

Thanx for the comments

Hehe yeah, once you're able to focus on the music without all that other stuff bugging you it's gonna turn out very cool.

I usually record my things a few times before I get it right, and with a song that long - it's a herculean effort my friend!

I really like the tone Brow...the rest is just getting a feel for recording techniques. You've got nice tone and that's the most important thing.

I love Gary Moore's blues playing.

It's not that I couldn't focus on the music, my PC speakers are crap and couldn't handle the guitar going through them. So they kept distorting and I couldn't really hear anything but fuzz and a bit of the drum track :)

Thanx for the comments Jeff :)

I hope to either get some better equipment for home (better mic and speakers) or re-doing ti in the studio where I volunteer for a few days in the week.

I love Gary's blues playing too, its a shame I can't do it justice :D lol

There's just one critical factor that will make you or break you, Craig. Can you tune your guitar without a tuner and sing/whistle in tune? If the answer is no - then I'm afraid you will never be able to hear whether you are getting the string bend right and in consequence, never be a guitar player.

If the answer is yes (and we all hope it is) - then you are well on your way to getting things sorted.

The sad thing is, however, you can either do it or you can't - it's hereditary.

I hope you can answer yes, because it is absolutely critical that you can do it.

Here's hoping.

Lee (ps this is not a criticism - just asking a very pertinent question)

I know that some of the bends are out of tune, I knew that when I was recording it :)

I only did it as an half assed recording, when I have the time to do it right, I spend the time and do it until it's right :)

To answer your question, yes I can tune a guitar by ear and can sing in tune. I can't whislt in tune tho, but 2 outta 3 ain't bad :D

Good on ya for posting this bro.......I can relate to the problems you've had with trying to play along with little computer speakers!

Where to from here?.....ever upward buddy..ever upward........each successive recording you make at home brings you another step closer to your ideal.... ;)

Hey buddy,

Thanx for the good comments :D

The next time I can get in the studio is around the start of September, so I'll get it re-done asap and hopefully Jolly will host it for me :D
