My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

WITH FULL DISTORTION

F. Hails Railsologist
Hey Guys, hows it going?
im sure you guys all remember my first guitar, and my long time number 1 to experiment With pickups, My charvel fusion deluxe, from 1990/1991.

I Still have it , but im facing a problem here : I have tried many pickups, many duncans and although the Custom Custom - Hot rails combination worked, I felt that the custom custom lacked tightness and Bass, and the hot rails lacked singing tone and high frequencies. along with a good /decent clean sound.

I have tried the following combos on it, without success : Jb jr neck, Hot rails Neck. Emg Sa neck. and in the bridge : CUstom five (lacked mids, but overall, was a good pickup), CUstom custom, as mentioned, lacked bass, and tightness. Duncan custom (its a very nice pickup, but not for this guitar, it just doesnt shinned in this guitar), Jb (AWFUL , too brittle and the mids sounds weird) Duncan Distortion (muddy on the bass frequencies, and strangely, more bass mids than mids. and too raw and harsh. and i tried an Invader in another guitar with a basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and 25.5 scale length, mine has the 24,75 scale lenght and i disliked the INvader.
THe DImebucker is a nice pickup, but lacks MIDS. i have tried it 3 times in a DEAN DIMEBAG flame, 22 frets and i didnt like this lack of mids. I have a serious problem with lacking mids in a pickup.

SO, what do you guys have in mind to help me? which combinations?
im trying to keep 2 sets of pickups from each manufacturer in each 2 of my guitars. and i already have a Duncan CUstom - pearly gates in one guitar.
Im trying to get my custom set done but i think its not going to work, since the guys doesnt answer emails or delay way too much to give replies. so im desconsidering this option.

If i could get an IMproved CUSTOM CUSTOM - HOT RAILS sound, it would sit perfect on that guitar.
I was also considering trading my JBJR NECK for either a Lil Screaming Demon neck or a Lil 59 but im unsure what to expect from them, specially from the Demon.
and for the bridge, i can only think DIstrotion parallel axis trmebucker. but if its close to the DUncan distortion, i want to walk AWAY from it. ahahahaha

sO WHAT ARE your thoughts guys?
Thanks in Advance
JP

I have a fusion also. Mine has a dimarzio megadrive and the two stock rails. I love it.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Just a thought, have you tried any blade pickups besides hotrails? My recommendation is Lindy Fralin split blade pickups (best way I an describe them is a single coil size that is articulate like a single cpil but powerful like a humbucker....if that makes sense) along with a Bill Lawrence or Dimebucker...just my thoughts...you'd have lots of power while still being very articulate and tons of harmonics...if that's the sound you are going for...

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

hails guys
thanks for the input
no no, i just used the same pickups as described. no other one. Q: (
i was about to try a dimarzio in the neck, but got confused with too many options
Also, keep in mind that i play metal, the fast, heavy and aggressive/intrincate sort of. lets say , DEATH(The band) IN his Symbolic album, but with blast beats, faster and more intrincate.
so, keep in mind those referencies when thinking about the suggestions for me Q: )
thank you very much in advance
lets see what the others have in mind.

AH, just i thought i forgot to write : this guitar seems to lack Bass AND MIDS, but it has enough highs.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Well, I'm really not a metal dude so I wouldn't have the best input on that...a very broad generalization on my part but I've just seem to associate EMG's with metal...

I would say a Bill Lawrence or Dimebucker may be what you are looking for in the bridge--very articulate, high output, and incredible harmonics. I know Bill Lawrence makes a single rail as well....but I'm not a metal dude so I'm not so sure how those fit in...

I'm surprised the Hotrails didn't really work out...I've thought of this as more on te darker side than bright...the guitar lacking bass would have made me suggest that if you hadn't said you already tried it.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Yeah, i liked the Hot Rail, but i wish it had those EXTRAS i mentioned.
besides of that, if i cant find anything, ill go with the hot rails once again. im willing to try a LIL59 in the neck first, then a Lil screaming demon
if they not work, then ill go after other brands.
i think i used , somewhere, a bill lawrence l500xl in the bridge

I can understand not having the "extras"...I typically love the JB but found in Basswood that the Screamin Demon just had more of something I couldn't describe...lol

The Bill Lawrence is one that I always debate going to...thought about getting an old Kramer with just a bridge pickup in it to put on in. I love rail pickups and saw that now DiMarzio is offering a Satriani rail pickup...

Anywho, best of luck on getting your tone/pickups...I wish I could be of more help but I fall under rock/alternative so my experiences don't really help metal out.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Did you try the Hot Rails with parallel wiring? Add series-parallel switching, and I think it's a killer, super-versatile neck pickup in a guitar like that.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Alternative 8 for the bridge.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Sounds like your floyd could use a brass block. Have you tried that yet?

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

Its really hard to get a pickup to add something that a guitar lacks... Much easier to get them to remove too much of something. A passive pickup can only work with what the guitar gives it. Even if you find a mid heavy pickup if the guitar gives it nothing to work with your gonna have problems.

You can get a Jackson J50BC dirt cheap on eBay. That's what came stock in my USA-made Jackson Fusion.

Re: My Charvel Fusion Deluxe needs your help forum Bros...Pickuo content inside.Q: )

I kind of still have a Fusion Deluxe. My mom got me that guitar as my HS graduation gift in '92. Mine had the bright orange finish. A few years ago I took it apart with the intention of sanding off that orange finish and going with a natural tung oil finish. I ended up losing the partially-sanded body in a move shortly afterward, haven't found it yet. So I still have the stock neck and hardware/electronics. I was always happy with the sound of the stock pickups. I should get into some of the boxes in the garage and see if I can find it. I'd love to finish that project and get that guitar back into shape. It served me well for over 15 years.

I always preferred the "toothpaste" Charvel logo.

Hope you can find the body and finish that project! Although, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the toothpaste logo ;) I thought the Charvel in the shape of a guitar was awesome...but then again a lot of the album covers from that time period used guitars to so maybe it's a dated look (that they brought back lol)

I would humbly recommend the Alt8 as well. Lots of mids, and tight enough for what you describe.
I've always found it to be a great metal pup, but lacked some highs.... Might turn out great for your specific issues.
