my drri just died! help!

skyking

New member
I was playing the amp and then it started making a crackling noise, then that went away. Then the volume went up and down and then it died. It wasnt sounding right at the low volume I was playing at. It was kind of distorted around 3, but not the good kind. I pulled the fuse and it was blown. This is the second time it did that, after the first time I replaced the fuse and it seemed to be working until now. Do any of you guys possibly know what could be going wrong with it?:smack:

Re: my drri just died! help!

I've only had the amp for 4 months and bought it brand new. Will the tubes go out that quick or did I just get a bad one?

Re: my drri just died! help!

It is hard to tell without troubleshooting skyking. It is good to keep a few fuses and tubes around. This allows you to switch them out to troubleshoot the issue.

Tubes can go at any time. But, I would check into what my warranty covers before I went any further.

Re: my drri just died! help!

can you plug any of the same type tubes into it without having to adjust anything. I'm still pretty new to the electric guitar and tube amp thing. Thanks for your help.

Preamp tubes, yes you should be able to plug n' play. The powertubes may be a different story. I would wait for a response from someone who knows if the amp is cathode or fixed biased.

EDIT: But, if you are under warranty, let the manufacturer deal with this.

Re: my drri just died! help!

You can plug in new 6V6's briefly to see if that's the problem. It shouldn't hurt anything, but you'll still have to have them biased before really continuing to use the amp. But if it's only four months old take it to the shop, it's free! If you should need new power tubes I cant recommend JJ Electronics 6V6's highly enough. Very good tone and VERY good reliability. In fact do yourself a favor and toss the factory tubes and get some new ones just for the tone improvement.

Thanks for the help guys. I bought this at guitar center and he said they would have to send it in to be fixed. I don't know how long that will take or where they would have to ship it to. Do you think if I found another fender dealer around here if they would do the warranty work even though I didn't buy it from them?

Re: my drri just died! help!

Don't take it back to Guitarget...

Call Fender and see where & who your nearest authorized service shop is.
