My first guitar project

So I'm planning to give my guitar (Jack & Danny LS 500, LP Style model) a nice make-over.
The wood is good - sry for that -, but the pickups are too tame for my taste. I tend to play more punk and metal. So I was thinking SH8 for the bridge. Neck, I'm not sure. Maybe the same?
I've never done anything in the wiring business, either. I have volume for each of the two pickups and two tone potis. But I never really use them, the tone potis I mean. One volume and one for tone would be enough for me. Can that be accomplished, does that even make sense?
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and rock on...

You can definitely wire it to have one tone and one volume...some of the pointy headstock shredders only hava a volume knob on them.

IMO, you are missing out on some really cool tones by not using your tone pots, but to each their own.

Awesome, thanks a lot!

Do you have any suggestions concerning a pickup model? I'm looking for a really heavy tone. I was thinking SH8...

Sure. Invader will give you that. In fact, pair it with SH6n Distortion. My friend has this combo in his LP. Heavy. He splits both pickups for versatility with push pull option and gets usable single coil sounds.

That sounds like a great idea... Can you help me out with the wiring? I have never done that before.

So this is the guitar, that I want to spice up a little.

Since I got the electronics worked out, all I need now is design advice... I was planning on changing the knobs, the bridge, the tuning mechanics and basically everything chrome related.
My initial idea was, that I get everything in ruthenium, I like that very much. But I'm not sure, if that fits with the color of the guitar. Maybe gold, I don't know... Any thoughts on that?

Personally I think the Chrome looks best on those Cherry/Heritage-ish Bursts...I've never liked Gold hardware, normally prefer Black hardware. Just a suggestion, upload the pic into a simple program like "paint" on your computer and draw over the Chrome and knobs with Black and then Gold...save you the time from buying parts and then finding out you don't like it...just a thought.

This would be the model for the pu-covers.

Re: My first guitar project

I think chrome hardware in combination with the rusty looking pickup covers would totally rule!

Re: My first guitar project

Pardons lack of knowledge, but is it possible to install the covers on the invader pu's? Judging from the pictures, they had enormous pole pieces...

Your idea is not bad at all... I shall consider that. :-)

Re: My first guitar project

I honestly don't see how you couldn't get heavier with a Distortion. Although, if you want heavier while still retaining versatility, check out the Black Winter set. I want to put a set in one of my guitars but I don't know if I have anything suitable for it yet.
