I forgot to ask:

Is it possible to use the power attenuator (THD Hot Plate) with a combo?

Yes, it is. Some combo's have the cable going from the amp section to the loudspeaker driver right on the amp's rear panel, so you would just place the Hot Plate between the two.

If the connection is internal, then you would need to have a tech make leads for you so you can make the connections externally.

I can only tell you that you won't be disappointed!
Rivera amps are very much under the radar for metal, with CC Deville being the only known example I can think of. Worth seeking out.

Well, up until most recently, I was a dedicated rails player, both Hot Rails and Joe Bardens ...

What do you gain by using a true single coil?
1. NOISE. With lower gain and a scatterwound pickup, you will minimize the noise you get, but the fact is, a SC is still a noiser pickup.

2. DYNAMICS. SCs are much more dynamic than rail pups. Consequently, you can dig in deeper. The end result is a more expressive tone.

3. FOCUS. That was the one thing I didn't expect, was increased focus. I always imagined SCs as being twangy lost in a see of 60 cycle noise. Not so with the Irish Tour. Now, the IT is a very tight, focused, sounding pickup to begin with. I have mine set VERY low in the body, and use the buffer to even it's output to equal the 17+k output of the MM. (Which totally works, btw) That beng said, the output of the IT is relatively low; something like 8k. The Trilogy Suite I got has a 13.5k output. I will have that one up and running soon, and will report back.

4. OPENESS. Wide open, bell-like tone.
