My friends strat is a Squier Affinity model. He wants a metal tone from it, to my knowledge the neck wood is maple and it has a rosewood fretboard but im not sure about the body wood I believe it is alder, now he aims towards metal as an overall so my personal recommendations are the Invader from personal expirience, and the Hot Rails can anyone else make any better suggestions I can put forward to him?

I could be wrong, but I think the Affinity models are agathis.

Does he want to keep it SSS or put a full-size humbucker in the bridge? If he's keeping it SSS then I'd recommend a Hot Rails for the bridge. If he wants a full-size humbucker then someone else will have to help you. The highest output pickup I've used is the Custom...
