Howdy folks. I've been registered for over 2 years but I think this is my first post here :cool2: I thought I could post in the well section but it appears it's closed, so I'll say hi here. At the moment, I've got a 2004 LTD AX-350 that I just installed some dave mustaine live wires in, and a 1997 ESP Horizon that now has a complete pair of full shreds. Ive had the neck model for about 3 years and ive absolutely loved it.
I bought a used schecter c-1 classic (mahog body, maple/walnut(?) neck thru) in late 2009 and it came with the live wires. I took them out and put in passives only because i wanted coil splitting options. kept the live wires because they sounded amazing and im excited i get to use them again now. Also for about 3 years, I had a dimebucker and the full shred neck model in two different guitars. It was always an odd matchup. Luckily i recently sold the dimebucker so I had an excuse to buy another bridge pup. Ive loved the hell out of the full shred neck so I decided to buy the bridge version. So far im a little unhappy with it, but I still have lots of tweaking to do before the final verdict is in. The full shred neck has been in an LTD fx-260 (mahog set neck, mahog body) and the above black ax-350 (mahog set-thru neck, mahog body) and it always sounded stellar. now its in the ESP which is a maple bolt on neck and an ash body, and its not singing through quite as well. I also just bought an Avid Eleven Rack so im still figuring out how to properly tweak some presets there.
The livewires sounded very very clear and very sharp in the c-1 classic, but they are sounding rather muddy in the AX. I emailed seymour duncan tech support asking if I could wire them up for 18V for possible added headroom, they said it was ok, so i did it and it seems to have made no difference. I used the same pots (100K) and capacitor wired in the same manner as it came in the c-1 classic and im surprised it sounds so drastically different. I keep these pickups really low in the guitar as I had to in the c1 classic, but I'm sure i still have some adjusting to do there.
Im not too worried about the live wires at the moment. Im more concerned with getting the full shreds to sound the best since thats the guitar i use most now. Any suggestions on height or cap value for the FSs would be greatly appreciated. Right now im using two 500K pots and an orange cap that im pretty sure is .022 mfd. Both pickups are a bit darker than I would really like them to be. i have a 1 meg pot lying around so I may try that if i cant seem to tweak it enough via the eleven rack.
