My FullShred doesn't cut it for me anymore - help me replace it!

The problem with it now, IMO, is that it sounds too thin, it's not as thick/fat/chunky as I want it to be.

I want more bite/chunkyness, and more "body"/bottom end, not neccesarily more bass, because I don't like the boomy-ness some pickups provide, but i want it to sound bigger.

perhaps more high end bite??, and just..a fuller sound.

Playing/Music style: Lamb of God ish.

The guitar that has the FullShred is a basswood RG Prestige w/ tremolo, and I'm running it into a Mesa Studo Pre (Mark IIC+ basically.)

What'd you recomend?

thanks. :)

im not sure, but i've heard he (morton) plays a 59 set in his sig axe. he's also been known to use the invader and dime pickups. but recently he's supposedly using 59's. plus, he's very precise. go to the mesa website and check out his promo vid. maybe that will help?

as far as the pickup goes i dont know. never played a full shred. but, maybe a patb3? or another patb series pickup

try raising the pickup while lowering the adjustable pole pieces a bit. if that doesn't do it, replacing the stock a5 magnet with an a8 might do the trick for you. a8 sounds like an a5 and ceramic mixed together, with smoother-but-chewy highs and thick lows and low mids.

An A8 mag swap will make your Fullshred sound pissed off and angry. It will def be thicker w/out mud. Been there done that have the t-shirt.

Another option would be the Evo2...

What about a distortion? ;)

I would suggest an Evolution. Its an aggressive sounding pickup.

I'd at least try that before buying a new PU. You know, PU's sound different in different guitars & woods. You might like an A8 in it.

The guitar that has the FullShred is a basswood RG Prestige w/ tremolo,
That might be the trouble. I've installed Full Shreds in 24 3/4" scale guitars with mahogany bodies and they sound great. In a 25 1/2" scale guitar, especially with a brighter wood like ash, or a neck through design with a maple neck, the Full Shred can lack a little body.

I think I'd second the PATB pickup suggestion. The PATB-3 is made to sound crunchy and full in a 25 1/2" scale guitar with a bright sounding wood like ash. In fact it is designed to sound like a vintge humbucker in a Les Paul. If your guitar hero is using '59's, depending on what guitar he plays, the PATB-3 might make yours sound similar. I know it will fill out the bottom end.

The PATB-1 is a good suggestion too. It's full sounding, chunky, crunchy and tight.

The Screamin Demon is great too if you want high end bite, a full but tight low end, and a lot of crunch. It has a great singing lead tone too.

The hex polepieces make the thing more assertive but also thin it out.

A DD will fix it.

Possibly even an Invade if you want really thick and warm.

I dont think he uses them but his sig comes with them. I've thought so in the past but at the download he was using EMGs or blackouts.

The interesting thing about 59's is they have all the clarity of EMG's or other active pickups, despite obviously being a vintage pickup. '59's are hi-fi, but with a very smooth quality. I don't currently have EMG's in any of my guitars, but of those pickups I do have, 59's, the Dimarzio D Activator (designed to sound like an EMG 85) and the Ultrasonic Reference Series pickups from the 80's are the cleanest sounding passive pickups I have heard.

Thrashman, if you're after clarity along with more body and bite, you might try the D Activators.

Custom. That's what I did after the FullShred and I never looked back, though I do still love the FS for sure.

The Evo is also very bright and not very thick I find, quite FS like but more screechy... I doubt it'd fit in.

Could also be that it's your guitar that's the issue. A thin, bright sounding guitar won't thicken up that well unless you try specialized pickups, big, fat ones like the Tone Zone or the Alternative 8.
