My holy grail of tone

I think I've found it.

Not the Holy Grail, but EHX product anyway: The Worm

I bought it, because I thought it to be great bang for the buck with phaser, tremolo and wah in a same box.

After fiddling it for a while, I found out that tremolo used with exp. pedal is not just tremolo: It's brilliant way to add dynamic treble boost into your chops.

After having the pedal for a few weeks, it's become pretty much stape in my playing. I use that Tremolo setting for treble boost effect as an always on effect, adjusting with exp. pedal whenever I need smoother or more biting tone.

Only time I shut it off is when playing clean. For anything else, it seems to make everything I play sound better.

What do you think? Do you have/had similar pieces of gear? Opinions about the worm?

My holy grail of tone

I used to have one and thought it was fun, also noticed the EQ tweak it gives. Ended up flipping it due to space needs on my board and because I’m particular about phase. I thought it was great value.

Where do you put it in your chain? I like phase and wah before dirt, vibrato right after and tremolo at the end. So that was always a compromise :)

Right after guitar, I don't have many pedals and get my dirt from amp: Volume pedal after Worm, then chorus and reverb.

Boss Delay.

That's a really interesting box though, and you seem to be using in really interesting ways!

I've got the Wiggler which I think is the same thing just with a tube in the preamp. I agree, I can get lost with that thing for hours.... So many cool tones. Unfortunately the tube runs with a crazy AC adapter, at least the Worm is DC!

Enjoy!
