Re: My Jackson collection

Very cool! is the PS5 set neck? Im guessing bolt on, right? I have a 4 string Model series charvel

Re: My Jackson collection

Perhaps. But the Jackson thing happened by accident. I had a pair of beautiful Spectors, A Rex Pro and a Euro. They were the nicest feeling basses Ive ever had but they were so hot they would overdrive the input of my amps no matter what I did. I bought the PS5 for $150 to have a beater bass, plugged it in an instantly loved the tone. Its been down hill from there.

They are all bolt on necks. The PS5 was Jackson entry level bass. The only 80s/90s Jackson neck throughs are the US made ones. I missed one on ebay for $350 last year. The Charvel 3B is much easier to find.

Re: My Jackson collection

Need 2 more Jacksons. Then you will have the Jackson 5. Bu dump pump.... Sorry, couldnt resist..

Re: My Jackson collection

Ive used that line before. I have a Kelly Bird and a Dinky as well.

I think mine is a 2b. Bought it for a great price and came with Dimarzio pups in it. man, what a great price for a USA!

Great minds think alike! haha You like the Kelly bird?

Re: My Jackson collection

very nice collection.

I also have 2 Jackson basses but both with EMG PJ. I like them and I consider them 'my sound', but I'm still wondering how is the EMG 35DC set compared to the EMG PJ. Since you've got both, could you write some lines explaining the differences? thanks.

I believe all the Charvel B series are MIJ like most of the Jacksons. The Kellybird is ok. It doesnt get much use. Neck dive is bad and the slab body is pretty uncomfortable. It doesnt sound terrible though.

The DC's are much fatter sounding. Its hard to compare though because my P/J basses both have a pass tone control and the bass with the DCs had the 3 band EQVolume, blend, bass, treble and a stacked mid/mid frequency. That preamp is pretty hot too so it gets real chunky especially when you start dialing in the mids. Ive been considering trying a 35 J in the neck spot.

Re: My Jackson collection

I like the Mockingbird, but it isn't a Jackson.
Speaking of it though, this came to mind;
3.49.

The prevailing opinion on talkbass is that the DC is fat, but still quite bright; too bright for the bridge position in some cases. I liked it in the sweet spot of a Modulus Q series, but haven't really had much of a chance to try it anywhere else. The follow videos are demos of a 1994 Spector NS-4 with the 18V US circuit; first with 35DCs and 2nd with a 35P/35J set. The DCs seems to live up to their reputation for being bright, and I have to say I greatly prefer the P/J set.

Re: My Jackson collection

Seeing these is making me GAS even harder for a Jackson Concert V.

Re: My Jackson collection

Thanks. The Concert Vs are not easy to find. Id love a white one but after months of searching and not find any I jumped on my black one.

Re: My Jackson collection

I keep seeing the Concert V on ebay and Musician's friend. Once I get done moving, it is next on my "to get" list.
