My MIA Strat

Been asking around on here for a little while now about all kinds of pedals, amp mods, and pickup changes etc. Finally, my strat feels complete, unique, and best of all, mine =] Thought I'd post some pics.

I would still consider changing the bridge, nut, or bridge and middle pups, but i'm pretty satisfied with it for now. Texas Hot Antiquity in the neck but I still have the tex-mex in the middle so i might change that, or just the magnet(s). More important to save up for a pedal power so my board doesn't hiss...

Re: My MIA Strat

Did you refinish the headstock (its not a trick, and this is really a Squier)?

Its a nice looking strat, I like the Gilmour type colours on a strat and a maple fretboard is the only way to go with a strat. Nice! :)

Re: My MIA Strat

i've heard that a strat's bridge single coil isn't the greatest thing in the world. is a humbucker a better fit?
what about a single-coil sized humbucker? either a rails-style, or a stacked?

Re: My MIA Strat

lol the pick holder has been on there for like an entire year. Useful, and no one else knows about it.

IMO, the humbucker is really nice for the bridge. Really thick sounding and a lot better for heavier stuff. I use it for blues too. My teacher has a single-sized HB in his bridge and i'd trust his word over a lot of people, but it's just a JB jr. and even he admits it lacks the qualities of a full sized HB. If you've got the slot in your strat, or you're looking for a new one, I'd say do it. HSS guitars won't retain value as well though if you're looking to sell it in 50 years as a vintage guitar (probably) just because they lose that "classic" SSS thing.

Re: My MIA Strat

I love a humbucker in the bridge of a Strat. Just feels right to me. And I wonder if that pick holder adds any mass to the head, thus increasing sustain? I know it sounds dumb but they used to sell those Fathead things that allegedly did just that for Strats.

Nice guitar BTW. I'd happily rock that maple neck. What 'bucker is in there? Is it stock Fender? If so which one and what are your thoughts?

Re: My MIA Strat

haha i doubt it, those things are $2 and they weigh less than my pinky finger.
The HB in HSS American standard strats is a Diamondback. I like it but i thought about replacing it. It's pretty bright, and i usually hate bright guitars, but again, I like it.
In HSS American Deluxe Strats, the HB is a "DH-1" but i can't say anything about those.

Re: My MIA Strat

Ditch the cheap funky brdige block and pick up a good solid steel. Thats the best thing you can do for that guitar right away.

Re: My MIA Strat

What were you wearing on your head when you snapped those pictures?
Your reflection on the back of the guitar...seems like you were ready to join the WWF.
Haahaha.

Its a cool strat. I love fatstrat. I've had many.

Haha I wasn't. I see that weird shape on the back but idk what it was. Maybe i missed a spot with my lizard spit.

The standard bridge blocks are crap? I always thought people liked them.

Anyway thanks everyone I love it too. Do you guys name your guitars? Haha
