My new number one.

I have been trying like crazy to always play all of my guitars as equally as I can.

But lately all I grab is my Gibby faded V.
It sounds and plays amazing. We might be soulmates! Even if I start the night out with the Jackson, dean, rich, whatever I'll still end up with the Gibby finishing the night out.

It's not the most beautiful guitar I have, its certainly not the most Metal axe I own, it doesn't shred necessarily..... But its kinda "just right".... It gets me, it feels right.... Maybe the frets, neck, board, weight, balance, sound? Kind of a balanced guitar that does it all, if I'm playing Gary Moore, def lep, Slayer, or whatever,.... It just sounds right.

It has moved into my #1 slot. She needs a name. (I've kind of moved away from naming my guitars in the past 10yrs or so)

Thank you, that is all.

my #1 is my DK2.. plays and sounds great.. the body really resonates nice

i prefer just to rank them.. i have 6 guitars and just call them #1 -#6

i usually have the squire stagemaster deluxe,dk2 and squire superstrat in rotation but here lately ive just been grabbing the dinky.. i have truely bonded with the dinky..the squire stagemaster deluxe is also awesome and have bonded with it as well.. plays every bit as good as my dk-2.. but i can only play one guitar at a time..lol

Well a Flying V is a guitar that I think can be played in pretty much any context outside of Indie rock, where you'll probably get made fun of. As for the explanation, sometimes a guitar is just right. I didn't go to Guitar Center one day with the idea that I was going to fall in love with a Hamer 335 copy and use that for metal music, but such is life.

Keep rocking man.

Re: My new number one.

Some of those faded Vs are serious monsters. I had one that was absolutely "it" for a V.

Sold it to buy an explorer. Bought another a couple years later and it was decent, but nowhere near the first one.

Re: My new number one.

Cool. I have a Gothic V I'm getting ready to overhaul.

I have one like that, it doesn't fit what I play at all but it's so good in the hands and on the ears and versatile that i recorded my last metal album with it. A Washburn HB 35 (G335 copy).

Naming them I've always done. I had so many that if one was lent out I didn't always realise/remember one was missing until I ran through my written list with names. Numbers just got to confusing.

The only bad part about it now is if I have to tell someone what one is called, the names don't always make my wife real happy. Back when I was younger, not married, and had GAS really bad, about half of them got a girls name. Named for the flavor of the month. I do have one named after my wife though, my HB 35. Turns out they were both keepers.

Re: My new number one.

very nice! I scored a faded v few years back pretty cheap and it was a real nice player! Ive played some newer ones in the shops and they were ****e. very sloppily built and had no mojo.
Names can be tough. Im still working on names for all mine. but some I just cant find a fit.. And yeah, my wife doesnt like the names.. My explorer doesnt have an actual name. I just call her mistress. she's dressed in black and sexy and I love to play with her.. haha

I cant call them by numbers as they rotate in favor with me, so my number 1 may not always be. And ( I know, this is crazy) but I wouldnt want to call one number one as I would want the others to feel like they are less than that to me.. haha

as far a a name.. does it make you think of anyone or anything?? go with that. or something that plays on the color. scarlett or.. Or from the shape: Violet, Vivian, Vanessa.

Re: My new number one.

Funny. I had a faded V that I really disliked in every way and sold a couple years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is the very guitar you like so much! :)

Re: My new number one.

As a teen, I had Judas Priest posters on my wall and used to stare at KK's red Flying V.
Because of that, it's easy to associate V's with metal.

So if it were mine, the guitar would be named KK or The Priest, or something like that.

A few years back Edwards (I believe) had a model out that was a replica of KK's V. Was kewl!!
